How does it work?
Any employee of a charity operating in Quebec can put forward a project idea. Representatives from The Home Depot Canada Foundation and a committee of associates from local The Home Depot stores in Quebec will evaluate nominated projects to determine which ones will be submitted to a public vote. The projects that receive the highest number of votes during the voting phase will be completed with support from local The Home Depot associates.
What qualifies as a project idea?
The Home Depot Canada Foundation provides resources to support the development of affordable housing and community improvement projects. Project ideas should:
Why renovate your community?
"Giving back" and "doing the right thing" are two of The Home Depot's core values. We live these values by using our skills, knowledge and resources to meet important community needs that help improve the places we all call home.
Eligible projects
The Home Depot Canada Foundation supports registered Canadian charitable organizations that share our commitment to developing sustainable homes and communities and are located in areas where The Home Depot has a retail presence. Examples of eligible projects include:
- Putting a fresh coat of paint on a shelter, low-income and/or transitional housing unit/complex
- Landscaping, planting, green space beautification or conservation project
- Improving storage space at a food bank
- Playground enhancement projects
Ineligible projects
Please be advised, The Home Depot Canada Foundation does not fund:
- Fundraising initiatives including, without limitation, charity benefits, dinners, exhibits, conferences and sporting events
- Nonprofit organizations that have been in existence for less than one year
- Public institutions including schools and daycares
- Courtesy or advertising campaigns in newspapers
- Endowments or capital campaigns
- Administrative or capital costs (for example, overheads/operating costs, office equipment, salaries)
- Personal or group expeditions
- Projects that benefit a political party or political group
- Sports teams or other sponsorships
- Film, music, television, video and media production projects or funding for public broadcasting
- Projects deemed unsafe or dangerous as determined by the sole discretion of The Home Depot Canada
- Projects that require ongoing funding. This campaign is designed to support self-contained community improvement projects.
Are there any special conditions?
All projects must be undertaken by a charitable organization that is registered with the Canada Revenue Agency.
Who selects the project finalists?
Representatives from The Home Depot Canada Foundation and associates from local The Home Depot stores in Quebec. Up to three nominated projects for each store will then move forward to the public voting phase of the campaign.
How are nominated projects evaluated?
Nominated projects will be evaluated based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to:
Community Impact - will the project make a measurable and meaningful difference to a population in need in the local community?
Volunteer Engagement - does the project offer ample and reasonable opportunities to involve The Home Depot associate volunteers?
Creativity - is the project unique? Does it involve a creative or innovative solution to a community need?
