Stop Flushing Your Money Down the Drain!
We all know that turning the tap off when we brush our teeth and taking shorter showers are great ways to reduce water consumption. But did you know that toilets use more water than anything else in the bathroom?
Water is our most precious resource as it's necessary for sustaining all living things. However, its supply is not abundant. Inefficient agricultural, industrial, and consumer practices have depleted this resource faster than it can be replenished.
Since toilets represent the single largest use of water in the home (30%), switching to a toilet that's water-efficient makes a big impact. The standard toilet uses 13 Litres of water per flush. Even if you have a newer, 6L toilet, when accumulated over a couple of years, that's a lot of unnecessary water and money flushed down the drain. Replacing a 13L toilet with a water-efficient model can save you up to $99 each year in reduced water bills!*
So how do you find a water-efficient toilet? The Home Depot makes it easy. Look for the Eco Options label online and in store to find toilets that are WaterSense certified. By choosing a WaterSense toilet, you're getting a product that's superior in quality, performance, and efficiency.
There are two options when choosing a water-efficient toilet. High efficiency toilets (HETs) use 4.8 Litres of water per flush or less. Dual-flush toilets have two different settings, one for light and one for heavy flushes. Both options provide significant water and cost savings. Look for toilets with a high Maximum Performance (MaP) score, which indicates flushing performance. The higher the MaP, the more grams of waste the toilet can remove in one flush. WaterSense toilets must have a minimum MaP of 350 grams per flush.
The Home Depot carries a wide range of WaterSense toilets. And, during the weekend of February 26-27, we're helping consumers save even more money by offering more than 30% off** select toilets. What's more, when you purchase a featured toilet during the Go Low Flow event, you'll receive a coupon for 15% off*** your next bath purchase, helping you to complete your entire bathroom makeover!
Whether you're remodeling a bathroom, starting construction on a new home, or simply replacing an old, inefficient toilet, installing a WaterSense toilet is a smart choice.
When you're ready to upgrade, it's important to check with your municipality to find out how to dispose of your old toilet properly. Also, don't forget to check for toilet rebates in your municipality. Use our rebate finder to see what incentives are available in your area to increase your savings even further.
If you're not ready to buy a new toilet, you can still save money and help the environment by installing a dual-flush toilet converter . This product converts your existing toilet into a dual-flush toilet, enabling you to use 45% less water.
*Toilet savings based on household of 3 people switching from a 13L toilet to a 4.8L model, assuming 5 flushes a day per person. Cost of water at $2.20/1,000L.
