Initiatives

At The Home Depot Canada, we're dedicated to making a positive environmental impact every day. Working with our customers, vendors and community partners, the environment always remains a core pillar of our business. From our Eco Options products to our consumer events and recycling programs, we help our customers make better choices for the environment when improving their homes.

We're constantly working towards reducing the impact of our products, services and operations. Our leadership in innovation, waste reduction and energy efficiency has produced continued successes.

For example, operational changes at store level have resulted in a savings of 220 million kWh of energy since 2005 - enough energy to power 12,500 homes for a year! In addition, since June 1, 2009, to help reduce the number of plastic bags our customers use and to help protect the environment, we have collected a $0.05 fee for plastic bags in cities and municipalities where required. Net proceeds generated by this fee are allocated to The Home Depot Canada Foundation for sustainable housing and community improvement projects.
