Grant Programs

The Home Depot Canada Foundation believes that good neighbours make great neighbourhoods. The Foundation is dedicated to the development of affordable, sustainable housing and the creation of vibrant, environmentally responsible communities for Canadians.

As such, we provide support to Canadian charitable organizations dedicated to developing environmentally sustainable homes and communities through two grant programs:

  1. Community Grants – for small-scale affordable, sustainable housing initiatives and local neighbourhood improvement projects that incorporate sustainable building techniques and/or materials; also, beautification and conservation projects.

    Maximum Grant: $5,000 (cash and/or The Home Depot gift card)

    Application deadline: Applications are accepted year-round for this program

    Eligible Projects include but are not limited to: affordable housing initiatives and neighbourhood improvement projects that involve building, rebuilding, painting, refurbishing, increasing energy efficiency or sustainability, landscaping, planting.

  2. Affordable Housing Grants – for affordable housing renovation projects that incorporate sustainable (energy efficient) building techniques and/or materials

    Grant Value: $25,000

    The application deadline for the most recent cycle of our Affordable Housing Grants Program has passed. As such, we are not accepting applications for this program at this time.

Grant Guidelines and Exclusions

The Home Depot Canada Foundation provides support to organizations and projects that support our commitment to developing sustainable homes and communities.

Organizations and projects that meet the following criteria are encouraged to apply:

  • Canadian charities that have a charitable registration number (assigned by Canada Revenue Agency).
  • Project is taking place in Canada, specifically, in a community where The Home Depot Canada has a retail presence.
  • Project will get underway within six months of application submission.
  • Project incorporates sustainable materials and/or practices.

Please be advised, The Home Depot Canada Foundation does not fund:

  • Organizations that are not Revenue Canada designated charities
  • Individuals
  • Fundraising initiatives, including auctions, benefits, dinners, exhibits, conferences and sports events
  • Courtesy or journal advertising campaigns
  • Endowments or capital campaigns
  • Administrative or capital costs (e.g. overhead, office equipment, salaries)
  • Personal or group expeditions
  • Sports sponsorships
  • Film, music, television, video and media production projects or broadcast underwriting

Please note:

  • Only organizations with a charitable registration number will be considered
  • No hand-written applications will be accepted
  • The Home Depot Canada Foundation is only able to fund a small percentage of the many worthwhile proposals we receive. As such, Foundation staff are unable to discuss details regarding unsuccessful applications.
