Grant Programs

The Home Depot Canada Foundation believes that good neighbours make great neighbourhoods. The Foundation is dedicated to sharing our time, knowledge and resources to support affordable housing and build strong communities for Canadians in need.

As such, we provide support to Canadian registered charities who share our commitment to building strong communities through two grant programs:

  1. Community Grants – for small-scale affordable housing initiatives and neighbourhood improvement projects that serve Canadians in need and encourage hands-on service through volunteer engagement.

    Maximum Grant: $5,000 (cash and/or The Home Depot gift card)

    Application deadline: applications are accepted year-round for this program

    Eligible Projects include but are not limited to: small-scale affordable housing and neighbourhood improvement projects that involve rebuilding, repairing, painting, refurbishing, landscaping, and planting.

  2. Affordable Housing Grants – for repairs, refurbishments and modifications to affordable housing dwellings that benefit Canadians in need

    Grant Value: $25,000 cash

    Application Deadline: June 15, 2012

    Eligible Projects include but are not limited to: window replacement, weatherizing, painting, enhancements to the outdoor landscape (i.e. trees, gardens, seating areas), lighting or fixture upgrade projects, insulation improvements, small kitchen or washroom renovations.

Grant Guidelines and Exclusions

The Home Depot Canada Foundation provides resources that support the development of affordable housing and community improvement projects that make lasting physical improvements to the neighbourhoods we serve.

Organizations and projects that meet the following criteria are encouraged to apply:

  • Canadian charities that have a charitable registration number (assigned by Canada Revenue Agency).
  • Project is taking place in Canada, specifically, in a community where The Home Depot Canada has a retail presence.
  • Project will get underway within six months of application submission.
  • Project serves a disadvantaged population in Canada.

Preference will be given to projects that encourage the involvement of volunteers (local The Home Depot associate volunteers and/or community volunteers).

Please be advised, The Home Depot Canada Foundation does not fund:

  • Organizations that are not Revenue Canada designated charities
  • Individuals
  • Fundraising initiatives, including auctions, benefits, dinners, exhibits, conferences and sports events
  • Courtesy or journal advertising campaigns
  • Endowments or capital campaigns
  • Administrative or capital costs (e.g. overhead, office equipment, salaries)
  • Personal or group expeditions
  • Sports sponsorships
  • Religious organizations
  • Public or private educational institutions
  • Child care centres
  • Film, music, television, video and media production projects or broadcast underwriting

Please note:

  • Only organizations with a charitable registration number will be considered
  • No hand-written applications will be accepted
  • The Home Depot Canada Foundation is only able to fund a small percentage of the many worthwhile proposals we receive. As such, Foundation staff are unable to discuss details regarding unsuccessful applications.
