Enhance Your Décor with Moulding
Project Overview
Looking to enhance your décor but don't know how? Turn your bare walls into your canvas. Here's how: use chair rails to create architectural panels on your painted walls. Use white paint on your walls and mouldings to create a full panel effect or play with different colours to create your own personalized look. Break free from plain without breaking your budget!
7 Steps
- Install the Chair Rail
- Marking the Wall
- Calculate the Height of the Panel
- Calculate Spacing Between Panels
- Mark the Vertical Location of the Panels
Step 2
Marking the Wall
With a block of wood, cut to the space size (3"), and a pencil, slide the block below the chair rail and the top of the baseboard marking the wall.
Step 3
Calculate the Height of the Panel
Calculate the overall height of the panel by measuring between the top and bottom markings.
Step 4
Calculate Spacing Between Panels
Measure overall width of the wall area to calculate the spacing between panels using the panel width of 16".
Step 5
Mark the Vertical Location of the Panels
Using a carpenter's square, mark the vertical location of the panels on the wall based on the spacing that was calculated (step 4).
Step 6
Cut the Panel Moulding
Cut horizontal panel moulding pieces at 16" and cut vertical panel moulding pieces at calculated panel height (step 3). All pieces are cut at a 45° angle to create picture frame panels.
Step 7
Install the Panel Moulding
Using adhesive and finishing nails, install the panel moulding following the markings on the wall.
