Project Overview

Potted Herbs

Create a herb or vegetable planter box. Customize your container to suit your culinary passions. Start your garden from scratch using eco-certified seeds and you'll be rewarded with super-healthy and great tasting results.

5 Steps

  1. Cut fabric
  2. Drill drainage holes
  3. Build growing base
  4. Add soil
  5. Planting
Cut fabric

Step 1

Cut fabric

Turn planter upside down and, using a utility knife, cut 2 pieces of weed block landscape fabric to fit bottom of planter. Holding fabric down with masking tape makes it easier to cut a straight line. Set the fabric aside for Step 3.

Drill drainage holes

Step 2

Drill drainage holes

Using a drill with a 1/2" concrete bit, drill 4 drainage holes in base of planter.

Build growing base

Step 3

Build growing base

Turn planter right side up and place one of the fabric pieces in the bottom. Add 2" – 3" of 3/4" crushed stone for drainage. Be sure to rinse the crushed stone before using.

Add soil

Step 4

Add soil

Place the second fabric piece over the stone. Fill planter with garden soil.

Step 5

Planting

Plant seeds – check your seed packet for recommended planting depth. Water carefully and keep moist. Then all you have to do is wait for your herbs to sprout.
