Wrapping Station
Project Overview
This compact-sized, wall-mounted wrapping station keeps all of your ribbons, paper and accessories neatly organized. Build two identical pieces, one for paper and one for ribbons. Once installed, you can quickly access supplies whenever a birthday or holiday event occurs.
8 Steps
- Cut supports
- Cut supports to length
- Cut end pieces
- Drill holes for dowels
- Cut notches for ribbon/paper dowel carrier
Step 1
Cut supports
Using a table saw with the blade set at 45º and an 8' piece of 1" x 4" select pine, make a rip at 2-1/2". Save the 1-1/8" offcut for the second support. From another 1" x 4" piece of select pine, make a 45° rip at 1-1/2" to create the hanger bracket.
Step 2
Cut supports to length
Using the mitre saw, cut the supports to 34-1/2". Cut the 1-1/2" support bracket slightly shorter, to 34-3/8".
Step 3
Cut end pieces
From a 4 ft. length of 1" x 6" clear pine, cut 4 square end pieces, 5-1/2" x 5-1/2". Then measure 1" off 2 opposing corners and cut off at a 45º angle. This will create triangular pieces with 2 right-angled corners.
Step 4
Drill holes for dowels
Align and clamp end pieces together and drill a 1/2" hole in one of the offset corners to accept the 1/2" dowel that will act as a straight edge.
Step 5
Cut notches for ribbon/paper dowel carrier
Using a trim router and a 1/4" double-fluted bit, rout a channel 3/8" deep on an angle, and 7/16" wide, to accept the dowel that will hold ribbon/paper.
Step 6
Assemble
Assemble unit by gluing bottom and rear supports flush to the back of the end pieces the 45° angles should be oriented as shown in figure 6. During assembly, also glue a 1/2" dowel, cut to 35" long, into the predrilled holes. Countersink 1-1/4" #8 woodscrews 2 in the ends of the rear support and one at each end of the bottom support. Glue 3/8" and 1/2" birch mushroom caps to hide the screws and dowel hole. Following assembly, cut the second dowel to length to fit between the routed channels this is the removable carrier for ribbons or paper.
Step 8
Install
Using 2" woodscrews and drywall plugs, install the wall mounting bracket on the wall with the 45º angle facing in to accept the 45º angle on the back support piece.
