Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight effective insulated door . This door was new in the box and on sale for $70 off this price when we spec'd it and started the shed building. An unfortunate weather delay resulted in us missing the sale..but we bought the door anyway because of its availability and price point compared to a different brand. Parts are packaged well, pulleys, springs, cables ,brackets, nuts and bolts are all there. The slotted angle iron hangers to hold the overhead rail ends was not included and says so on the box($35 to buy extra). The instructions are informative but not concise. Bracket hinges are stamped with a number to tell you which panel joint they mount on and all the holes for them were not pre-drilled but allowed easy lagbolt penetration using a battery operated impact drill. Install is simple and could be done by one person with some door experience..but I would suggest a helper. It is an overhead spring tension system which surpasses systems of years ago using a one piece tin door and side springs..and once adjusted and installed..works flawlessly. A plastic grab handle is included.. but not the parts to lock or unlock it from outside. A slidelock lever box is included to secure the door from the inside by sliding into a knockout slot in the side guide rail. An electric door opener could be installed without any issues once the door is adjusted properly..we didnt use one.To free up space above the garage door when open.. a self-contained roll-up door would be a better choice. Pros: Price, nice finish, overhead springs, price. Cons:Vinyl bottom seal, weak instructions. Recommeded: Yes

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a good deal I bought this a couple of weeks ago, it was marked clearance, and cheap. Information indicated I could install this in a hole 8 feet wide and 7 feet high. You can't, the door is exactly 8 feet wide, and no way to make it smaller, and then it has roller wheels that stick out about an inch and half at each end. You will need more room above to install the brackets as well, so the hole needs to be at least 8'3" by 7'6". The first thing I see when I open the box is that 2 of my aluminum door panels are severely bent. I live 150 km from the nearest home depot, and it was the last one in stock. So we bent the doors back into shape, we were careful, and they look good. If you are unlucky, you might easily wreck the parts. Then I opened the installation manual. The first thing it says is that if you don't buy a rear hanger kit, not included in the box, that your warranty is voided, and your door will be wrecked in short order. The instructions are the absolute worst I have ever seen. It is almost impossible to figure out from the instructions. The instructions are for four different options, so the pictures often don't match. The box does not tell you what option you have bought. You have to attach brackets to the rails, but the holes don't line up on one side, it fit perfect on one side, but not the other. It doesn't clearly tell you what bolt/screw to use in what hole. It does not have predrilled holes for a door handle. It does not have a lock, or latch included, those are optional extras, so your door is not secure, until I go back 150 km, to buy them. The set up is actually ridiculously easy, if you knew what it should look like, and what bolts to use where. It seems to be assuming you are replacing an existing garage door, that has similar equipment, so that you know what should go where. My cousin who is a carpenter and I spent 7 hours putting the door up, and together, and we probably still have a couple of hours to go, because we need to replace some bolts, with different bolts. Because it didn't fit in a 7 foot by 8 foot hole, I had to mount it directly behind the hole, using up some of my already tight garage space. The head room is confusing, as the instructions say that you need 18 inches of head room, but part that shows you how to measure the radius, says if you have 12 inch radius, you need 10 inches of headroom. However, you need to mount a spring above the door, to pull it up, and various different options, mean that you get various different springs, so it is possible, that you will need the full 18 inch of headroom on yours. This was the cheapest 8X7 foot door in Western Canada, and it shows. I put stuff together all the time, and I'm considered handy, my cousin is a carpenter. We aren't quite done yet, but I expect it will have taken us 9 hours to install this door, we need to go back for extra parts, plus change out some screws.. Had the door not been bent, and if the instructions were legible, and if it had fit an 8X7 foot hole as it says it will in the answer section, it should have taken us 3 hours. Now that we know what we are doing we could do it in 2 hours. If you live close to a store, you might want get them to install the door for you.

I have a 48" opening, can I cut the door and reuse the end caps so rebuild the door?

    Asked by: Jessica
We do not recommend altering our product as this could be a serious safety risk. Also, the spring is engineered to specification for the exact weight of this door and would not balance the door. Please visit your local Home Depot store for recommendations on Special Order products available for 48" openings.

what is the exact opening size required for this door

    Asked by: dunner
The opening should be about the same size as the door. The rough opening can be off by an inch or so but it should be about the same size as the door. Hope this helps and thanks for shopping at The Home Depot.
