Rated 3 out of 5 by from good product Good product but the line is very cheap. ECHO needs to replace it with a thicker and better product. I almost took my back but thankfully my dad found a thicker line that works better with the product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but not Great I purchased my GT-225 4 years ago. First off you do not have to cut the line into strips as some have suggested. It does not have a auto line feed, so how do you use the line? You buy them at precut lengths, there is 40 to a tube. I recommend getting the heavier ".130" line, it won't break as easy as the preloaded stuff. You will use at least 40 pieces during a season. Now onto the trimmer itself, it fired up on the first pull. Worked very well for 3 years and then after that not so good. By the fourth year it would start after 7 or 8 pulls. It would stop after 10 minutes of runtime. Now after a minor tuneup into it's fourth year it runs for 5 minutes and then stops working for an hour or two. It is done. I am told it is warrantied for 5 years, but where the heck is my reciept? I would recommend this unit but you need to know what you are getting. I have seen this offered from $149.00 to $198.00 Cnd. For the lower price I would purchase it again but not for the higher price. Some reviews have said this will last for 20 years, it will not. I own my own house with what nowadays would be considered a large yard, the GT-225 is considered "entry level" and for large yards I would consider a larger weed wacker. You will get 3 solid years of service from this little guy and for a $149.00 that is all it owes you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Use heavy line I use only 15.5 mil line , the heaviest ,cut in about 7" pieces . I can trim tough reeds , grass, and light brush for hours before needing to insert new line. One trick, the heavy line needs to be about an inch or two shorter than regular weights to compensate for the reduced speed .

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stalls out after 5 minutes! This thing is a piece of junk! It stalls out after only 5 minutes of running, or if the engine gets too hot...I WOULD NOT recommend this piece of junk!! I have had this for a little over 2 years and it has had VERY LITTLE use...maybe 5 hours of use in total..!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bump-to-advance head is not included Potential buyers should note carefully that the usual bump-to-advance head is not included with this item. Instead, you must cut pieces of line and poke them into slots in the head. Unless you have only a couple trees or about 10 feet of fence line to trim, this is a massive waste of time. The engine and other features are fine. But the lack of a proper head is a disappointment. I've owned 3 trimmers and never saw one that had such a low-budget head. My fault for not investigating this more closely beforehand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Plastic Drive wears out I bought mine last summer. It worked well. I just went to start it up today, and the head isn't spinning, even though the engine is running. Shut it down. Take it apart - the connecting interface between the main shaft and the curved shaft is PLASTIC - not a hardy, durable plastic, but a flimsy folded plastic in the shape of "+" for added "rigidity" that was completed worn out...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from smarten up people Really? I read the reviews.. This is a great machine! My wife can start it, I run 2 tank of gas thru it at a time trimming my farm yard... no trouble. Guys if your string is breaking off buy the thicker stuff. I have the thickest you can buy and it just wont break. Even trimming around fence posts and trees. As far as the gas any one who leaves the gas in a 2 cycle over the winter needs his head examined. Gas wont go bad in 3 months ever! Check your mixing! 5 out of 5 every day!

Can't keep the lines in the head they keep coming out. This shouldn't happen even when spinning and no or very little contact with Grass?

    Asked by: Artie
Hello Artie. I apologize for the issue: it sounds like the line retention pawl teeth may not fully engage and clamp the trimmer line against the pull forces exerted when the line impacts the shield cut off blade. To address this issue, you will need to consult your nearest servicing ECHO dealer who can be located by visiting our website at www.echo.ca/store-locator.

Does the trimmer come with the automatic tap and go line feeder? Or do I buy that seperatly? Thanks

    Asked by: Anonymous
No tap and go, purchase the line in 40 piece tubes. Get the heavier ".130" line. Expect to use 40 pieces in one season for large yards.

my echo trimmer allways stalls when starting up

    Asked by: Anonymous
I have not had this problem. Insure you are using fresh gas/oil mix. Always shake gas can before adding to machine, and even shake machine if left sitting for a week. Gas and oil tend to separate out. Make use of the choke when the engine is cold; eventually you will find the right balance. Rev up the engine a few times and let it warm up for 30 seconds before use.
