The Extech EX470 is a True RMS Multimeter and Infrared Thermometer with Capacitance, Frequency, and Duty Cycle Measurements and is the perfect meter for HVAC or plant maintenance. The IR thermometer measures the surface temperature from -4 to 518 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 to 270 degrees Celsius) without contact. The built-in laser pointer centres the measuring area. Multimeter functions include AC and DC Voltage to 600 Volt, AC and DC current to 20 Amps, resistance to 40M, continuity and diode test. Also includes Type K thermometer for contact or air temperature measurements from -4 to 1832 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 to 750 degrees Celsius). The meter comes complete with test leads, Type K temperature probe, 9 Volt battery, protective holster, adjustable tilt stand and Velcro hanging strap.
- Non-contact infraRed thermometer measures surface temperature of objects unsafe to contact or difficult to reach
- Input fuse protection and mis-connection warnings with audible and visible signals
- Advanced capacitance, frequency and duty-cycle functions
- Infrared features 8:1 distance to target ratio with 0.95 fixed emissivity
- True RMS AC measurements

Customer Reviews12 Function True RMS Professional MultiMeter + InfraRed Thermometer is rated out of 5 by 1.Rated 4 out of 5 by whatdoiknow from very handy I have a Flir/Extech giant display temp and humidity meter, and a psychrometer; all three of these seem accurate, well made, but the temp/humidity has a very thin plastic swing-out leg as a stand -- this multimeter has a thicker, tension-ratcheting swing-out leg that flips to 180o, just poking above the top of the MM so you can hang it on a hook. I should have given the temp/humidity meter 4 stars, and I'd give this 4.5 if possible -- the leg on this isn't as necessary as on the temp/humidity, and it is thicker, but both are begging to be broken. Otherwise, this seems to be a reasonably rugged unit with a pretty thick silicone skin, presumably just under their waterproof-rugged 500 series. It comes with leads, a temp probe, a hand strap, a printed manual and a manual on mini-cd. I'm primarily using this for rebuilding coils on atomizers using non-protected lithium manganese batteries, which can be problematic if you get the resistance wrong. I have a dedicated dual-510 unit, and both of these agree; some mods don't fit well, or at all, on the dual-510, so with a little more fumbling this MM does the trick. When sub-ohming, it's nice to see how a coil's resistance relates to temp, and non-contact with laser guide is the only way I know of to get a good read (or any.)
