Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! I just used this to strip some old paint off an antique chair and table. It took about 2 hours to get at the 50 year paint. The product does not make the paint bubble but if you try to scrape it the paint comes off like butter. Very happy that Home Depot sells such a safe and effective product. I will buy this again next week for a window project.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This stuff blows I didn't have a home depot online account, but I HAD to write this, so let me roll up my sleeves and lay it down for you. I don't think I've ever felt so ripped off by a product before. If this product was $2, I would have shrugged my shoulders and said "Ya get what ya pay for", but all in, it was like 20 bucks for a small jug. After following the instructions for severely painted wood, there was almost no visible progress after 1 hour with 2 coats, so we took the extra step of scraping it, coating it again and leaving it overnight. It helped mildly, but I would say that most pieces were 10% affected and those with the most progress (so like 40%) only removed the top layer of paint. Now we had a sticky mess that does not wipe off, no matter what the instructions say. We lugged everything into the shower and spent about 5 minutes per piece hosing and scrubbing it down. The creators of this product probably laugh themselves to sleep at night thinking of all the suckers who have purchased this product and how much grief they have caused. Thanks for the unfinished project, the wasted time and the messy bathroom.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No results. Very disappointed. I tried to remove paint from a hand rail and even applied 2 coats of the gel, after waiting for couple hours there was no visible indication that the paint was affected in any way, I took the edge of the scraper to it and would not budge. I used one of the corners of the scraper and tried to lift some paint. I managed to peel some of it off but it felt very gummy and I could only do one square inch at the time. I do not recommend this product and will be returning the unopened containers back to the store. Reading the revious and seeing half the people having bad luck and the other half successful results I thing there are some bad batches of the stuff out there oe it only works well with some paints or varnishes...and yes I shook the product well before use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I used this product to remove varnish and stain only from table tops of a coffee table and two side tables (not their body). It works very well and makes no toxic fumes or mess. I had used other paint removers before which were a total mess without doing their job well. I looked up on other people's experience in different websites which was very helpful. These are my conclusion on recommendations and my own experience to obtain the best result: 1- Shake well before using. 2- Use a wide brush for the application. 3- Wrap with plastic those areas you are not going to treat. 4- Apply the liquid thoroughly and very generously to a level surface until leaving a not very thin but visible white coat on the surface. 5- Do not hesitate to cover the surface with a plastic sheet immediately after application to prevent drying. 6- Wait 15-30 minutes for softening of the old varnish. 7- Use a flat 3' scraper with a gentle and homogeneous pressure instead of a curved one which may damage the wood or leave the material on wood. Flat scraper will help in better removal with almost no mess. For the curved rims, I used a small fine metallic brush. 8- Clean the surface with a small towel soaked in warm water. 9- Unless you are going to stain your wood with a natural wood colour and the furniture doesn't have varnish on it, make no doubt to treat the wood with the second application of EZ Strip. Otherwise, you will have hard times with darker staining. You don't need to wait for drying the piece for second application. 10- Clean the treated area with the towel and warm water well and let it dry for 24 hours. 11- For darker stain projects, sand the surface well with fine sand papers (180 or higher) until seeing a raw wood appearance. 12- Repair any dents with wood filler and finely sand after drying. 13. Clean the surface well and start your exciting staining project. 14- I used 1.5 liters of the liquid for my job for two application on about 20 sqf of wood surface. 15- Result after staining and polyurethane varnish: Perfect!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from doesn't work and left sticky residue bought this to strip a dresser I found on the side of the road. Lifted only a little bit of the stain/topcoat but left a really bad sticky residue that I've spent hours trying to get off.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage I bought this to help with refurbishing my deck, Used it at 6:30am 13 degree weather applied a coat, covered with 6m vapor barrier poly, waited 10 minutes applied another coat, waited 2 hours. Did not work do not buy

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use I was very happy with the result. It is important to follow the instructions since every surface will need a different duration of contact and perhaps more than one application. The lack of odour and easy clean-up is a big plus.

Is this product safe on small die cast cars like hot wheels to strip the paint and not damage the alloy metals used in their manufacturing?

    Asked by: Trone
EZ Strip Paint & Varnish Stripper is safe to use on all types of metal. However please use caution with plastic as EZ Strip can damage some plastics. EZ Strip removal products are designed to remove most types of paint unless the coating has been UV hardened like the factory finish coating on vehicles.

I'm about to refinish an antique table coated in caulk paint and wax. I've been told that wax finishes can be difficult to remove. Would this product work? What's the difference between this remover and the textured finish product? Any other advice?

    Asked by: Dancing Chickens
EZ Strip Paint & Varnish Stripper works on all kinds of paint and furniture wax. Wax coatings tend to just take a little longer set time. For longer set times you can cover the treated area with plastic to keep the stripper wet and working. Our Popcorn Ceiling Remover is specifically designed for use on textured drywall surfaces.

One additional question. Can you apply this stripper with a foam roller? Cheers Roy

    Asked by: Roy Summers
For application EZ Strip Paint & Varnish Stripper can be applied with a paint brush, nap roller, or airless spray gun. A foam roller may not give a thick or even enough application for paint stripper.

Can you remove a product called VC17 Anti-fouling paint. It is made up of Telfon and Copper. Very thin. Could a foam roller be used to apply this stripper. Cheers Roy

    Asked by: Roy Summers
EZ Strip Paint & Varnish Stripper has been tested on some anti-fouling coatings and successfully removed them. Unfortunately this particular product has not so we would recommend testing a small area first in a warm environment by treating, covering with plastic, and allowing to set for up to 12 hours before scraping/scrubbing/pressure washing clean. For application EZ Strip Paint & Varnish Stripper can be applied with a paint brush, nap roller, or airless spray gun. We cannot guarantee this anti-fouling paint will react the same as other previously tested thank you for thinking of EZ Strip!
