Customer ReviewsPerformance Plus 39 Imperial Gal Electric Water Heater with 9 Year Warranty is rated out of 5 by 8.Rated 5 out of 5 by None from As advertised Has been installed for a few weeks now and is performing well. Was an easy installation and I like the system lights that show you when the elements are working or when there is a problem ( hopefully not for some time)Date published: 2018-10-12Rated 5 out of 5 by Taxmiser from Very nice Easy to install...ready to go. Great that it has the overflow already installed.Date published: 2018-08-19Rated 5 out of 5 by Novaman67 from Perfect replacement Fit perfectly, fast delivery. High quality product.Date published: 2018-05-08Rated 5 out of 5 by Satisfied from Love Rheem Products Realized that when removing the old hot water tank - it was a Rheem and it ahs been there for at least 20 years.. nothing wrong with it, just the insurance company said it was too old and had to be replaced. Replaced it a couple of months ago - easy to install (although I didn't do it a friend did, but I did hear any complaints lol). Plenty of hot water... no complaints!Date published: 2018-05-02Rated 4 out of 5 by Caron from Nice Had it for a month now and no shortage of hot water for 2 adults and 2 kids. Got the 3800km for water temp to heat up faster. So far so good.Date published: 2017-09-23Rated 3 out of 5 by OnTheCoast from Rheem Hot Water Heater - 9 Year Bought about two months ago. Installed with relative ease although the connections on top are male now as opposed to the old females on our previous Rheem heater. Working well so far. The only issue: the attachment for the hose at the bottom of the heater was damaged/partially stripped and we already had it delivered to our home a ferry crossing away from any Home Depot to replace it. A hose did secure well enough to keep it (fingers crossed when we drain it someday), but for the money, I would not expect an important piece of the equipment to be damaged out of the box. Otherwise 4 or 4.5 stars.Date published: 2017-08-18Rated 1 out of 5 by Laura from Misleading Product Photo We just bought one of these water heaters based on the 1 good review and the photo of a regular sized water heater. This water heater is much shorter than the one in the product photo as its only a 40 gallon water heater (not a great size if you have more than 2-3 people in your household). I was very dismayed to come home and find that this lower capacity water heater was installed. Prior to purchasing this water heater, I didn't check my old water heater's capacity to make certain that this new heater had the same water capacity as the old heater because the photo indicates a full sized water heater. To add insult to injury, we hired Home Depot to install the water heater and its not working .Date published: 2017-07-13Rated 5 out of 5 by NickL from Excellent water heater and very easy installation I replaced a month ago my Hydro rented Giant Cascade in my house, with a Rheem Performance Plus electric water heater, for which I had a very good price. And I am more than excited with my choice. Very well designed water heater, and very well detailled, and also extreamly easy to install. The Rheem has all connections at the top side, which is just perfect to install with the SharkBite's water heater connectors. I found also that the electrical box is perfectly located at the top side, which makes everything perfectly compact, and very easy and proper to install, especially for tight places. Perfect location for the pressure relief valve as well, on the side, which was also nicelly factory installed and insulated. I am also amazed that this water heater has also a self cleaning feature. The waranty is also very good, as is 9 years for the tank and parts, and one year in-home labor, which is excellent. Also there are no holes left around the evacuation valve or the bottom entry, like it is the case for Giant water heaters. I then installed a Giant Cascade for one of my renting units, and that installation was very, very, very painful, with its bottom cold water connection, the side electrical connection which is practically in the way of the pipe that will go to the bottom cold water entry, and the releaf valve which was not factory installed, also I also had to buy myself an adapter in order to be able to install a SharkByte connector with it... Definitelly a huge difference. And I detest those horrible looking holes left around the bottom cold water entry and around the drain valve. Now that I need to replace 2 other remaining water heaters, I know that I will go with Rheem, especially if I can aquire them at a good price like my actual one. I definitelly recommend this water heater to anyone!Date published: 2015-06-13

What is the height of the tank itself? (I presume 50.5 inches includes the fittings on top???)The tank height is 51 inches.Date published: 2019-01-31
Is this unit top fed or bottom fed? ThanksHi Dan21. Thanks for reaching out. No this is a top fed heater. Hope this helps. Cheers.Date published: 2019-01-28
is this unit direct wired ? ... or does it require a wall outlet ?BC Electrical code requires a hard wired disconnect (ie: 40 amp switch) if the electrical panel is not between the equipment and a room exit. Also the equipment must require a flexible (BX) jacketed cable between the wall (above 5ft) and the tank.Date published: 2018-02-27
Are the anodes removable for replacement? Can the anodes be removed in this tank and replaced with new anodes when worn out? If so, does Home Depot sell suitable replacements?Yes they are replaceable and should be replaced every 3 yrs to prolong the life of the tank. Date published: 2017-09-27
