Customer ReviewsPower Vent Natural Gas Water Heater, 50 Gal is rated out of 5 by 24.Rated 1 out of 5 by EveNMoore from Save yourself!!! My brand new water heater arrived defective. Where’s the quality control? Rheem service people do not carry parts so it takes minimum 2 days to get your water heater fixed. One day to have the part shipped to you and then if you are lucky, the service person will come the following day (they have 24 hours to contact you and won’t book an appointment till you have the part). Even after having service people here three times on three different days, my brand new water heater STILL doesn’t work. Here’s the kicker: if the next service person can’t find the problem I HAVE TO PAY ANOTHER SERVICE PERSON TO DISCONNECT AND RECONNECT A NEW TANK that I have the “privilege” of returning to Home Depot to buy another. And we all know how great it is to take that tank up and down the basement stairs. All the while, my family has no hot water to clean, shower, do laundry/ dishes etc. And the torture just goes on day after day and there’s not a thing we can do about it. Save yourself buy something different!Date published: 2018-10-24Rated 5 out of 5 by Jimmy from Easy to install! No end of hot water. Extremely impressed with this purchase! Would definitely recommend this product to anyone.Date published: 2018-09-08Rated 5 out of 5 by George from Does the Trick- Fast heat up and good capacity We purchased this water heater May 28, 2018. I don't know what more you need in a traditional water heater. Its a great capacity, heats up quickly and we NEVER run out of hot water ( we are a family of 4)Date published: 2018-06-27Rated 4 out of 5 by Luis from Works great, leaked after 4 years Installed 4 years ago and worked great, but now tank is leaking. Replacement process through Rheem was easy but now I have to pay my plumber again to switch to the new one. Should last more than the 4 years. I do check the quality of the water coming out of the water softener so I know is not hard water causing the problem.Date published: 2018-06-25Rated 5 out of 5 by Eghon from Working fine we got a new built house, the builder had a rental installed by default, so I asked for the rental to be removed as soon as we got the house and bought this tank from Home Depot and got the installation through Home Depot also, installation was quick and smooth, the tank is working fine, it has been 4 months now, will keep monitoring.Date published: 2018-06-16Rated 4 out of 5 by Lester B from Hot Water Fast! I bought this Hot water heater over a month ago, and just installed it 2 weeks past. Works great, fast recovery ,never runs out. Purchased on line using Pay Pal to a credit card was easy, all I had to do was pick it up with a slip I printed out , of proof of purchase. The reason I rated this deal good,(price unbeatable even with wholesalers),is that when I opened the box at home, the heater had been dropped, and sustained Sheet metal damage to the bottom edge of the tank. I loaded the Box into my van with store help and we did not mishandle it. There was no visible box damage, so it was damaged prior to Packing into the box . Rheem Factory QC Sucks. I repaired the Sheet Metal, it is not visible now. An Otherwise excellent experience!Date published: 2018-04-15Rated 5 out of 5 by JWHAR from Better then my Replaced Rental Quieter, more energy efficient (more insulation) ... recommend shop cost to install, Home Depot installer rate was $450 higher then gas certified heating contractor used to upgrade install to S636 Code. HW rental rates increasing each year, long term ownership is most cost effective way to go ... replace your HW Rental with this great heater.Date published: 2018-04-13Rated 4 out of 5 by Mickey from works fine This unit is quieter than the last unit. Works fine.Date published: 2018-04-08

Thanks RheemExpert but that does not answer the question. I need to know what the Class is for the water tank. According to code, Class IIa can use the white S636 IPEX pipe and fittings but only if below 65 Deg C. It would be Class 11b if it is below 90CHi crosstrax. To clarify, if the ambient temperature for the place of installation is less then 38 degrees Celsius, (most cases) then System 636 PVC is adequate for installation. In circumstances where the ambient temperature is between 38 and 52 degrees Celsius, CPVC should be used. If you have further questions, feel free to reach out to our tech line at 800 268 6966. Cheers.Date published: 2019-01-28
Can someone please tell me what the vent temperature or class of venting is required for this tank? I am getting conflicting information from various contractors and online information. The manual only says that it is 2" PVC/CPVC certified to ULC-S636.Dear RheemExpert, Thanks for your input but that does not answer the question. I need to know what the class is for the water tank. Does the unit have a second intake vent or does the unit draw air from the surrounding room? Can't tell from the pictureThanks for reaching out. This unit draws air from the room. If you would like an air intake, you can special order article 1000792894 which is Rheem's Power Direct Vent Model. Ask a Home Depot associate for more information. If you live in Alberta, this product may already be on your store shelf. Hope this helps.Date published: 2019-01-27
