Water Regularly

Water your lawn about 2.5 cm (1") each week unless it's rained - deep watering encourages deep healthy roots to grow. Water early in the day to avoid water from evaporating. Ensure to not overwater your lawn as this encourages insect population.

Mow High and Regularly

Short blades of grass mean short roots, which allows weeds to establish themselves much more easily - raise mower blade to 7.5 cm (3") to prevent this problem.

Overseed

Over-seeding helps to maintain a thick, dense healthy lawn which will prevent weeds from growing.

Fertilize

Ensure to feed lawn with natural fertilizer in the early spring and fall. Compost also works well as a fertilizer.

Dethatch and Aerate

Rake your lawn in the spring to get rid of any dead grass and do a core aeration in either the spring or fall, but at least once a year. Aeration allows soil to break down and breath, and gives room for the grass roots to grow even deeper/stronger.

Soil and Growing Conditions

For best results, plant flowers and shrubs according to the amount of sun/shade and soil conditions of your garden. Whenever possible, select flowers and plants that are native to your region for best results.
