Nylon is the strongest synthetic material used for DIY ropes and will last four to five times longer than natural fibers because it has good abrasion resistance, good UV resistance, and it is not damaged by oil or most chemicals. Great for indoor and outdoor uses, nylon does not float and it will absorb water, which causes it to shrink slightly and to lose some of its strength (10-15%). Nylon has great strength and shock load resistance, handles easily, and resists sunlight better than all other synthetics.
