OZCO Timber Bolts combines the beauty of the OZCO Hex Cap Nut and Timber Screw with the strength of a through-bolted connection. These bolts are engineered to replace standard thread-all, carriage or other similar through bolt arrangement. This bolt features our patent-pending "inside - out" compression technology. When tightening conventional through bolts the more the fastener compresses the material the more the fastener is exposed. The exposed threads can create a safety concern or visual distraction that is often unacceptable. Cutting the excess fastener is often the only solution which also causes issues with rust, sharp edges and compromised corrosion resistance. OZCO Bolts are currently offered in 4 sizes that together will connect material from any size between 4 in. - 12 in. Choosing the correct size is easy because the take up of each product is 2 in. taking the guess work out of choosing the correct size.
Carriage Bolts are mostly used in wood or metal to wood applications with a domed top and a square body under the head. This square body pulls into the wood as the nut is tightened. When using carriage bolts always use a flat washer between the wood and hex nut to eliminate pull-through of the nut in the wood. Drill pilot hole slightly larger than body diameter of bolt. Insert the carriage bolt so the headed end is on finished side of project for appearance or safety. Length is measured from under head to end of bolt. Use hot dipped galvanized finish or stainless steel where corrorsion is and rust is of concern or for exterior applications. Hot dipped galvanized finish provides one of the highest degree of corrosion resistance when compared to a steel zinc finish. Ideal for outdoor projects such as decks, fences, wood structures and with treated lumber installations.
Lag Bolts are also called Lag Screws and are recommended for all types of wood or metal to wood construction where standard wood or deck screws are too short or light and where nails or spikes lack sufficient strength. They can be installed in wood with pre-drilled pilot holes or in masonry with Lag Shields. In wood to wood applications the non-threaded shank allows the second piece to be drawn tightly to the first piece of wood. Flat or fender washers are suggested to provide a larger bearing surface and to prevent the head of the lag bolt from imbedding in the first piece of wood.
