With proper maintenance and the right parts, you can keep your water heater in tip-top shape for years. You can even extend the lifespan of your water heater with the right maintenance parts.
Replacing your hot water tank anode rod isn’t something most of us think to do, but it is a vital component in basic hot water heater maintenance. In fact, replacing that anode rod on time could double the lifespan of your hot water heater. Keep reading to learn more about getting the right hot water tank anode rod for your hot water heater.
A hot water tank anode rod is a key component when it comes to protecting the inside of your hot water tank. In fact, it helps keeps the lining in your hot water tank from rusting or corroding.
On average, your hot water tank anode rod should be replaced every three to five years. Skipping the replacement could lead to cracks, corrosion, leaks or other damage. Reduced performance is also a major concern.
In most cases, anode rods are universal, meaning almost any type will work with any hot water heater. The only caveat here is that some models of hot water heater require an anode rod with a particular thread type.
Choosing a magnesium anode rod is a good choice, but you’ll need to replace that rod a little more often despite better tank production. Aluminum zinc anode rod styles last longer and can help reduce odors. They’re also a little more cost-effective.
Check your hot water heater’s manual if you’re not sure which style to install or bring your existing anode rod to one of our stores to find a suitable replacement if you’re doing the work yourself.
