Because of you, we raised over $1.3M for 125 youth focused charities across the country. Funds will be used to enable youth at risk of or facing homeless achieve positive development outcomes and realize their full potential.

Each year, The Home Depot Canada Foundation grants funding to registered Canadian charities to support initiatives that prevent and end youth homelessness in Canada through 4 granting streams: Community Development Grants, Youth Opportunity Grants, TradeWorx and Strategic Partnerships.

Community Impact Grant Program

Community Development Grant

This grant stream is now open.

Canadian registered charities with prevention, workplace readiness or housing needs programs with a youth focus. Maximum Grant is up to $10,000.

Preference will be given to repair, renovation and/or improvement projects to housing and/or other support facilities (i.e., employment services) for homeless youth.

The Orange Door Project Grant

Youth Opportunity Grant

This grant stream is now open.

The Youth Opportunity Grants will consider applications from Canadian registered charities dedicated to preventing and ending youth homelessness in Canada through housing, prevention and employment programs. ​

Including housing transformation, healthy pathways (prevention), and youth innovation, which include youth-led initiatives and education programs. Maximum Grant is up to $75,000.00.

Renovations

Repairs, refurbishments and/or modifications to a housing accommodation or other support facility that benefits homeless youth.

Prevention

Programs that reduce the likelihood youth will experience homelessness or support youth who have been homeless and reduce chronic homelessness.

Employment

Programs that focus on critical supportive services with an emphasis on job readiness and employment programs.

Grant Guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions

Guidelines

Our primary focus is to support housing initiatives that benefits at-risk/homeless youth. Community Partners are only eligible to receive the Community Development Grant OR The Youth Opportunity Grant each calendar year, but unfortunately not both.

Please be advised, The Home Depot Canada Foundation does not fund:

  • Organizations that are not Revenue Canada designated charities.
  • Individuals
  • Fundraising initiatives, including auctions, benefits, dinners, exhibits, conferences and sports events.
  • Courtesy or journal advertising campaigns
  • Endowments or capital campaigns
  • Personal or group expeditions
  • Sports sponsorships
  •  Religious organizations
  • Public or private educational institutions
  • Childcare centres
  • Film, music, television, video and media production projects or broadcast underwriting.

Should I confirm via phone or email that my request has been received?

No, Community Development Grant applicants will receive a response within four to six weeks of submitting their request. Should you not receive a response in this timeframe, please send an inquiry to canadafoundation@homedepot.com. Youth Opportunity Grant applicants will receive a response within four to five months of the full application deadline.

What are The Home Depot Canada Foundation’s funding priorities?

The Home Depot Canada Foundation is committed to taking action on youth homelessness by supporting the housing needs of Canada’s youth. As such, preference is given to projects that support the development of affordable housing and community improvement projects that benefit homeless youth. Eligible projects include small-scale affordable housing and neighbourhood improvement projects that involve rebuilding, repairing, painting, refurbishing, landscaping and planting.

When will I hear if my request has been approved?

Applications of our Community Development Grants are notified within 4-6 weeks of receipt. Youth Opportunity Grant applicants will be notified of their application status within four to five months of the application deadline. Please note that due to the large volume of requests we receive, we are unable to respond to telephone or e-mail inquires regarding the status of requests.

My request falls within your funding criteria but it was declined, why?

The Home Depot Canada Foundation receives many more applications that it can fund, and even though your request may meet our funding criteria, the funds may not be available at the time. We suggest you apply again in the following calendar year. Please note that due to the large volume of requests we receive, we are unable to respond to telephone or e-mail inquiries regarding the details of declined requests.

Does The Home Depot Canada Foundation have geographic restrictions?

The Home Depot Canada Foundation provides funding to charitable organizations that operate in Canada.

What does the Home Depot Canada Foundation define as youth?

The Foundation sees youth as between the ages of 13-29 years old. In some circumstances, especially in prevention, we support younger ages for intervention and outreach work.
