Most major appliances come with a manufacturer’s warranty that lasts anywhere from one year or more from the date of purchase and covers product defects, breakdowns, plus mechanical and electrical failures. If there is an issue during this time that is covered by the warranty, you will be referred to the manufacturer for service. If there is an issue that is not covered by warranty but is included in your The Home Depot Protection Plan, the plan will cover it.
After the manufacturer’s warranty expires, your appliance is covered by your Home Depot Protection Plan for the remainder of its 4-year plan term.
Eligible items should prompt the opportunity to purchase HDPP at time of sale. However, if the product did not prompt or you are purchasing after the fact, you can still purchase your Home Depot Protection Plan (HDPP) in store or online for up to 1-year post-purchase on major appliances or between 90 days to 1 year on general merchandise depending, but before, the manufacturer’s warranty ends.

Yes, plans are transferable, whether you are purchasing as a gift or are changing over to a new owner. In the case of changing ownership of a major appliance, plans should be registered at hdprotectionplan.ca under the current name on the purchase order. Plans can then be updated to the new owner.
Yes, you can update your coverage to begin 1 year after the manufacturers warranty ends based on the date of delivery by registering at hdprotectionplan.ca. Please keep your delivery receipt.
While you can purchase your Home Depot Protection Plan up to one year on major appliances and before the end of the manufacturer warranty or up to 1 year, whichever is earlier from date of purchase on general merchandise it is recommended to purchase your plan prior. In addition to be able to assist in instances where the product may not have specific coverage from the manufacturer but also protection plans may not be valid for merchandise with a known issue.
