• “HVAC” stands for “Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.” It refers to the various systems we use to regulate indoor temperature, air quality and airflow.
• The Home Depot offers a full range of HVAC solutions, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps and ductless systems – all available for installation.

• The correct-sized HVAC unit will depend on your home’s:
• Square footage
• Number of rooms
• Insulation and air flow
• Bigger isn’t always better. An oversized HVAC system can short-cycle and wear out early.
• Our HVAC installers will calculate the correct-sized HVAC system for your home during your FREE consultation.

• AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) is used for rating gas furnaces. It measures the percentage of heat produced versus the overall fuel consumed. Anything over 90 per cent is considered “high efficiency”.
• SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) is used to measure the cooling efficiency of air conditioners and heat pumps. While all new units are rated 13.00 or higher, SEER ratings below 10.00 were common just a decade ago.
• At The Home Depot, we only source and install high-efficiency furnaces, air conditioners, and heat pumps from trusted brands – helping to ensure a high standard of efficiency, quality, and performance for your home.

• Efficiency Ratings. Look for furnaces with AFUE ratings of 95% or higher, air conditioners with SEER ratings of 13.0 or higher, and heat pumps with HSPF ratings of 8.2 or higher.
• Brand Reliability. The Home Depot’s trusted technicians install dependable HVAC systems from top brands such as Trane^®, Comfortmaker^®, and GE^®.
• Proper Sizing. Our air conditioning, heat pump and furnace installers will ensure your new system is the right fit for your home.

• BTU (British Thermal Unit) is a measure of heating or cooling output.
• The higher the BTU, the more powerful the system.
• Your home’s square footage and insulation will largely determine how many BTUs you need. During your FREE in-home consultation, our HVAC technicians will assess your home and calculate the required output for your new equipment.

• Yes. Most Trane furnaces, central air conditioners and heat pumps – as well as other brands installed by The Home Depot’s licensed technicians – are compatible with smart thermostats.
• Note: Your home's wiring may need to be adjusted to accommodate a smart thermostat. Your Installer will be able to assess during your FREE consultation.

To keep your new HVAC equipment running smoothly and efficiently, we recommend that you:

• Change filters regularly
• Schedule seasonal maintenance twice a year (spring and fall)

Your installer will recommend a maintenance schedule based on your system.

• HVAC installations can typically be completed in one day. However, installations can take longer if additional ductwork or electrical upgrades are needed.
• Your installer will provide an estimated timeline before beginning their work, and we encourage you to discuss to ensure everyone is on the same page.

The cost of your HVAC installation, as well as the time to complete it, may vary depending on a variety of factors including:

• System complexity. For example, an HVAC replacement involving more than one piece of equipment will take longer and cost more.
• Home Size & Layout. Larger homes, for example, may require larger or more specialized system options or configurations.
• Existing infrastructure (such as gas lines or electrical wiring). Additional work may be required so that your new equipment can be safely installed; or
• Location of your home. Cost to install can vary depending on where you live, as well as the time it takes for our installers to travel

• Heat pumps provide both heating and cooling, making them a versatile and efficient option.
• Furnaces are ideal for homes with gas hookups in colder climate regions.
• Air conditioners are a necessity in regions with hot summers.
• Ductless systems are great for smaller spaces, additions without ductwork, or any other situation where whole-home solutions are not needed or preferable.
• During your FREE consultation, our HVAC installers will work with you to find the right system for your home.

Even if it runs, an old unit:

• May be less efficient, raising your energy bills.
• Might require frequent repairs.
• Could pose safety risks, such as carbon monoxide leaks from a cracked heat exchanger or flue pipe.

Upgrading to a new system helps reduce energy use, improve comfort and protect your household.

• As part of your HVAC installation service, our installers will remove your old furnace, AC or heat pump from your home and place it curbside for garbage collection.
• Haul-away and safe disposal of your old equipment is not automatically covered by your installation and may require an additional fee. Disposal must be arranged with your heating and AC installers before they arrive at your home.
• Please confirm disposal details with your installers prior to your installation appointment.
