Signs Your Asphalt Driveway May Need Repair or Resealing
Over time, your asphalt driveway will experience wear and tear. Here are some common signs to watch out for:
Cracks
Changes in temperature from extreme heat to cold cause asphalt compound to shrink and expand repeatedly over time, resulting in visible cracks. Edge cracks, line cracks, blocking cracks and alligator cracks can appear in your asphalt driveway, leaving room for moisture to reach the substrata layer of your driveway.
Solution: Crack filler or sealant should be applied regularly to avoid further damage.
Depressions
An even surface is crucial to maintaining a durable asphalt driveway. A pavement surface with slightly lower elevation than the surrounding area can create a depression, otherwise known as a ‘birdbath’.
Solution: A thin surface patch can be applied to minor depressions. In severe cases, however, the asphalt must be removed and re-installed.
Potholes

Indentations or tire grooves can form in the surface, creating a ‘rutting’ effect. Minor rutting indentations are relatively easy to fill in and repair. In severe cases, the surface needs to be removed and re-applied.
