DIY Christmas Stocking Holder Stand

Part of the fun of every holiday season is making your home come alive with bright, shiny decorations, inside and out. A stocking hanger is an easy way to add a personal touch to your Christmas décor. You can also use the same stand to hang a sign and complement your home’s outdoor Christmas decoration.

Skill Level: Beginner
Time:
  1. Step 1 Prep Materials

    Prep Materials

Gather all the materials you need for this stocking holder project at your local Home Depot. An associate will be happy to assist you if you need help.

If you are making the sign as well, cut a 50cm long section from a plywood board to use as the sign.

  2. Step 2 Attach Post to Base

    Attach Post to Base

Measure across the base to find the centre. Attach the post to the plywood base with carpenter’s glue, then secure it and allow at least 30 minutes to dry.

  3. Step 3 Paint

    Paint

Once the glue is dry, paint the post and base a festive colour (we used glossy red). If paint looks slightly thin or streaky, apply a second coat.

For the outdoor sign, you can paint it the same colour, a different colour such as white, stain the wood a light shade or even use chalkboard paint.

  4. Step 4 Attach Hooks to Post

    Attach Hooks to Post

Attach the coat hooks to the post. If you need more than 4, measure how tall your stockings are, then hang another stocking below a higher one. For the outdoor sign post, the sign can be attached directly to the post. We used twine to hang around the neck of the stair post.

  5. Step 5 Decorate Your Stocking Holder

    Decorate Your Stocking Holder

Decorate your DIY stocking holder with any Christmas ornaments, garlands or extra touches of paint you and your family want to include. You can also attach or hang the sign to your post. Make this DIY your own, and have fun!
