It was full of undigested wood and made my gorgeous garden full of weeds. I bought 12 bags and only used 2 and threw theven rest out ... If it wasn’t covid times I would have returned it but didn’t want to go into the store. I am still pulling out weeds and scooping out crappy dirt.\n

\n \n \n \n Rated 1 out of\n 5\n by\n Brice V from\n Not as advertised\n I bought this because my usual brand was out of stock. It does not at all look like any Black Earth I have purchased in the past. For one, it is light brown not dark at all, two, even when mixed with current soil, it makes your garden look dry and cracked instead of healthy even with daily watering. This product also claims to be weed-free, but the two garden beds I used it in are literally saturated with weeds and the ones next to them that I did not use the product on have a handful of weeds. I would absolutely not recommend this product to anyone.\n

\n \n \n \n Rated 4 out of\n 5\n by\n Nigel J from\n Black earth as described so far so good\n I bought 12 bags despite the horrendously bad reviews. I opened two bags randomly and they look perfect. I guess the company has improved their product.\n

\n \n \n \n Rated 4 out of\n 5\n by\n TheHouseholdCook from\n Good base dirt\n Used around 200 of these to backfill raised planters in my yard; worked great. Seemed like a good quality soil with no foreign materials in the bags I had. For the price it worked out cheaper than getting in bulk so I would definitely use again.\n

\n \n \n \n Rated 1 out of\n 5\n by\n MikeyYYC from\n Mis-labeled Product?\n I returned the 2 bags to the store as unsatisfactory product. The name Black Earth suggests a dark organic compost soil. The product inside was mostly peat with a generous amount of branches/ sticks. The colour was brown rather than the black that is suggested in the name. Very disappointed with Vigoro. It used to be a trusted name.\n

\n \n \n \n Rated 1 out of\n 5\n by\n Rodeo clown from\n It sucks.\n There was barely any soil in this mix. It was filled with patchy hummus, twigs, and sand. I wanted to use it for my vegetable garden, but it proved to be useless. Do not buy.\n

\n \n \n \n Rated 1 out of\n 5\n by\n kenjaaa from\n TERRIBLE\n This stuff is absolutely awful.\r\nWe spent more money than I care to admit and filled 2 raised garden beds with this, and it is unbelievably bad. It's basically mulch with a sprinkling of soil. Our gardens are doing pretty badly as they're so acidic, and there are wild mushrooms cropping up everywhere due to all the wood. \r\nThey honestly should just market this as mulch. \r\nVery disappointed. Do not buy.\n

\n \n \n \n Rated 5 out of\n 5\n by\n Cavies from\n Use this for every landscaping job!\n I use vigoro black earth soil as the finishing top layer for all my flower beds I create. Best soil hands down...yes, sometimes the odd bag does have a bit more wood chunks in it than I prefer, but overall, the black earth finishes the beds to give a rich and well nourished look.\n

\n \n \n \n Rated 1 out of\n 5\n by\n Russ from\n do not buy\n Bought 5 yesterday and so far opened 3 out of the 5 and ALL have far too much "filler"(?) such as literally wood/roots(?). If you want clean, black soil (i.e. for lawn repair/maintenance), this is NOT the product to buy/use. Not sure why Home Depot sells this subpar product as I saw this in another review and thought person possibly just got a bad bag but so far 3 out of 3 bad.\n

\n \n \n \n Rated 1 out of\n 5\n by\n Millie from\n black mulch, no earth\n I bought 10 bag of Black mulch.\r\n\r\nMy biggest mistake is I trusted this brand. I bought 150+ bags of triple mix last year to build up my flower bed, which is OK. Last week I bought 10 bags of triple mix(like brown mulch, no earth, few pea moss) . I thought I should put some earth in it. I buy black earth today. When I pick up it from store, I have concern of the weight, it was too light. When I put it into my flower bed, I was shocked. It is another bag of mulch.\n

\n \n \n \n Rated 1 out of\n 5\n by\n Adii from\n Got it second time and again the same thing...\n Hi there,\r\nLast year also I got this soil, and was not happy as it had a lot of wooden chips and twigs in it. I was not happy with the product. This year, I ordered another brand, but unfortunately that was sold out, so Home-depot, gave me this as an alternative. Again this year it has the same issue as last year. It has a lot of wooden chips and twigs in it. Instead the cheaper soil that I got before was more better than this one.\n

\n \n \n \n Rated 3 out of\n 5\n by\n Jojo from\n Not consistent\n I have bought lots of Vigoro Black Earth, the consistency is that of composted mulch & provides fairly good drainage. I decided to top dress some garden areas as I didn’t want to mulch all my gardens until spring. I bought 12 bags and bag #5 is very different and I’ve already dumped it onto the garden. It’s got pearlite in it and looks nothing like the stuff that I’ve already spread :-(\n

\n \n \n \n Rated 2 out of\n 5\n by\n Not impressed from\n Poor quality\n I purchased 4 bags of this and each bag was full of sticks, roots and more peat moss looking than black dirt. I have spent more time picking up sticks, think I had chopped down a tree.\n

\n \n \n \n Rated 1 out of\n 5\n by\n MikeV from\n Terrible product\n This has to be the worst gardening product I have ever purchased. I bought 10 bags expecting to find a "soil" product. What I got was 10 bags of twigs and mushrooms with a very small amount of "earth" added. I had to sift it to het anything useable out if the bag. Turned out to be about 70% twigs.Vigoro should be labelling this stuff as twigs rather than Black Earth.\n

\n \n \n \n Rated 4 out of\n 5\n by\n April from\n Strong stinky manure like soil\n The more nutritious the soil, the more manure content there will be. That is how I would describe this stinky manure soil. When you first pour out the soil, there is a strong manure smell. Make sure you you wear your old worn out shoes and clothes. It will ruin a good outfit. On the other hand, the plants are really growing well.\n

\n \n \n \n Rated 1 out of\n 5\n by\n Mark from\n Terrible - mostly wood chips\n Bought this for overseeing my grass. Looks black and rich but as you spread it out you see that it is full of wood chips and debris - very disappointed. Definitely not a "black earth" mix as advertised. Would not recommend even as a potting soil.\n

\n \n \n \n Rated 2 out of\n 5\n by\n CK2022 from\n Too many wood chips in Black Earth bags\n I purchased this last week to used with grass seeds. Very disappointing that all the 12 bags I purchased contained so many wood chips. I also had 3 bags where the soil was light grey. I remembered how good Vigoro used to be but I will never purchase this brand again.\n
