Blade sharpened easily and produced good results on both hard and soft woods. Don't waste your money on a more expensive smoothing plane as this one should be more than adequate for a contractor or home user.\n

It needed little flattening on the sole. Could have had a little better/smoother finish. Once polished, it performed well. Blade was sharp, but needed a little attention to get scary sharp. Not a problem though. Was a little disappointed that it didn't have wooden totes. Good value for the money.\n

More time with 325, 600 and 1,200 diamond stones brought it to an acceptable finish. The lever cap is cheaply made with a chrome finish that looks good from a distance. The iron is sharp. OK tool for handyman use. It was made in Mexico.\n

Expect to spend some tune-up time before use as it is not at a straight-out-of-the-box price point. I believe mine was repacked after a return because there was a small chip in the sole, non-critical or I would have returned it. Great for newbies and weekenders until your skills and budget work up to the high end. Treat it well and it will return the favor.\n

I am a bit concerned wit the lock lever for the blade hold down, but time will tell if it will hold up. Like most new tools they aren’t built as stoutly as they used to be.\n
