Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy! Do not buy if you live in Ontario, it will not pass electrical inspection. I just had to rip one out for this reason. There is nothing you can do to make it pass. It is not designed correctly to pass in Ontario and probably Canada. Stay away.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not legal to install in Canada based on U.S instal Not legal in Ontario/Canada Based on U.S installation instructions. You will never pass inspection with the connection inside of your electrical panel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expertly Designed. Easily Installed. Just finished installing this. It is incredibly well-designed and expertly pre-assembled. Each breaker has been pre-wired, and I was amazed to see that each wire is actually labeled to match the breaker it's connected to. Installation was a breeze! All parts and components were included; everything, including the marrets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very well built Product is a quality item and very easy to install if you feel comfortable inside your service panel. This kit came with everything including the kit including the gen cable. The only extra purchase would be the 10/3 cable to connect it to the connection box which is located outside the house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install Anyone that is savvy with working with electrical can install this as a DIY. Took about an hour after getting the preliminary work done. Hole in the house ,feeding the conduit and connecting it to the transfer switch etc. It works extremely well and is safe to operate.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Allowed in Ontario per Code This transfer switch cannot be installed to meet the Ontario electrical code. I am building a new home and the ESA inspector would not allow it as it requires the main panel be used as a junction box.

There would be no reason why the furnace fan could not be hooked up to this? No reason for it to have it's own separate switch?

Asked by: Curtis
A furnace fan is one of the most common applications for one of the circuits on this transfer switch. There is no reason to have a separate transfer switch for the furnace.

Hi, according to the photo, It is a 30A 2-pole (AB), 20A 2-pole (CD), and 61-pole 15A (EFGHIJ) that I am looking for. As per the description, the transfer switch supports up to 10 1-pole or 8 1-pole and one 30 Amp 2-pole only; please advise. Thanks.

Asked by: Sean
Hi, make sure you check the model number. The model 310CRK has a two pole 30A, a two pole 20 A and 6 single pole 15 A breakers. The model 310A has two two poles 20 A and 6 single pole 15 A. For both models, you can change the two poles in single poles by removing the handle ties for 120 V circuits - see the instruction manual.

Apparently the electrical code in Canada or Ontario where I live does not allow you to use the electrical panel as a junction box. So you can not marret the black wires together in the panel as per the instructions. What do we do in that scenario?

Are these transfer switches CSA approved?

Asked by: Geoff
It did not pass inspection in Ontario, which is frustrating. Even when you pull all the branch wires out and not splice in the main panel, as is recommended for ontario, there are still code issues with the neutrals in the box itself (or rather the lack thereof). After about $2k in sunk cost trying to get it to fit to code, I will have to try returning mine. Frustrating.

can you use utility power at the same time as using one of the circuits on the auxiliary power system if desired

Asked by: Farside
sort of defeating the usage; when you use a breaker via the transfer switch it will be powered by either the transfer switch or the utility for that specific breaker; this is a dummy proof system...you cannot provoque the 2 powers to collide in the breaker; you can use the other breakers not linked to the transfer swich to work with the utility; go see the many video on U-tube. Cannot see why you would want to use the generator when the power is back; Generator cost much more $$ (gaz) compared to hydro

How long is the armour cable, i.e., how close to the main service panel does the transfer switch need to be?

Asked by: DanH
Hello Dan, The conduit is 16 Inches long, If you need to extend the length, We recommend using a junction box to make the connections. You can cut the conduit also and place it closer if need be.
