Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lots of power, well designed string feeder I like my new string trimmer, it has lots of power and the 4ah battery lasts for enough time to do my very large yard without recharge. My only complaint is that the switch and motor are not angled for comfort but are straight inline with the rest of the pole. This makes me grip the switch at an odd angle for my wrist, which tires after a while. The motor can get hot after constant use, and its position makes me contact it with the inside of my lower arm, and I jump from the heat. If they'd just angled that part of the tool both those problems would go away. Good for shipping, not good for the user. But the rest of it I love.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Product is good but the trimmer head isn't. The product is good except for the RYOBI Reel Easy+ Bump Feed String Head. This part is made from a low density plastic that wears out very quickly under regular use. After about 20 uses, the arrows for lining up the feed string are worn out completely and no longer visible (see pic). Also, the grooves that the string winding tool grabs to wind the string onto the feeder head is also worn out. and no longer winds the string. In fact, the whole head is now completely round and virtually un-usable. I can understand that this is a part that wears with use, but it should not wear out this quickly. I'm just a homeowner and the product should handle this type of use. I will go through at least one Bump Feed String Head per season at this rate and they are not cheap. It's a big disappointment, as the rest of the product lives up the the reviews.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Amazing Bought this a couple months ago and man am I happy. I had a Husqvarna gas trimmer for 2 years failed once replaced under warranty and then the new one ran funny. Was to much yankong to pull start. The Ryobi and me have flattened so many yardsand done so much heavy duty work. You should buy a second battery if you use it frequently or have a big property because youll only get about 35-45 minutes charge with the 40V battery at full tilt. Honestly going that hard for 35 minutes is very very impressive. Head blew apart after 2 months though and had to replace with an aftermarket as the original head is impossible to find or order.

The 40V trimmer with 4 Ahr battery provides a lot of power and the charge going full out will last me 30-40 minutes. One `10' length of the 0.080" line will last for 5-6 hours of trimming, including some tricky sections with a lot of fallen branches that would just break off the slimmer 0.060" lines in my experience. The incredibly simple and efficient way the line is wound onto the spool makes all the other trimmers I have used look like amateur toys. The fact that it will also accept attachments is a wonderful bonus. The only CON is that when using the unit at full speed for

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Motor seized after 1 season This tool was ok for medium-duty work, although the power was minimal and pole saw attachment was jittery. This worked for one season of use. This spring the motor seized and I had to bring it in to the service depot. I have been waiting 3 months for warranty repair/replacement (mostly the service depot's fault, but Ryobi picked them). It's a cheaper option than more pro brands, but not very useful to me to be left with useless attachments and no motor all spring. I will be selling it whenever it gets replaced/repaired and moving to another platform. Don't make my mistake - buy once, cry once!

I only purchased this item yesterday, put the battery on charger overnight and tried it today.I was a little concerned about weight and balance being the 40v system, however, after using it I found it wasn't as heavy as I thought it would be and balances perfectly on my hip. Who knew we needed a variable speed trimmer but for control best concept especially around our rocks we used as a lawn edging. Tired of dragging 150 feet of extension cord and didn't want the up keep of a gas trimmer. I own a fair number of the Ryobi One tools and choose the 40v version for what I assume is more power and a longer runtime. I may have to checkout some of the other tools that can be switched over going forward.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not great so far 1. Price went down shortly after I purchased this. Hate when that happens. 2. Much louder than my previous 40V trimmer (different brand). A lot of noise coming from battery area. 3. Battery gets very hot. 4. Auto line feed is already not working (less than a month of very limited use). String is too short and there is not way to manually advance the line. See #4 below. 5. Impossible to unlock the line feed head. Won't budge from locked to unlocked position. If there's a trick to it, try finding that in the manual. 6. The power trigger position, etc. makes my hand ache. Have owned a 40V trimmer before and didn't have this issue. Tried many things to try and alleviate the issue (strap, handle adjustments), but nothing helped. Think I'll be returning this item pronto.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This trimmer is a Beast. This trimmer is a beast! It is a step above the common 12 and 18 volt trimmers many of us are familiar with these days. It is heavy and very powerful, but the location of the center handle creates a balance point that distributes that weight making it a non-issue in the handling of the trimmer. The power can be overwhelming but, after some practice and familiarization the variable power ability of the trigger you can easily achieve the proper application of that power. Add the fact that this trimmer complements my Ryobi 40V lawnmower completing all I need to look after my lawn care needs. The possibility of adding other trimming devices could increase the utility of this unit. Very satisfied with this trimmer.

How long does the battery last?

I just finished over 1/2 hour of *heavy* whacking (including ferns and blackberry vines), and the battery (4Ah) still had 1/4 charge. For normal grass trimming, I think you could get an hour.
