This is the sturdiest coat hook ever, and will hold up great to the daily life of four kids 9 and under. And it looks FANTASTIC! Our kids, like all kids, get in the door, drop their backpacks, and run! It drives me a little crazy, so my wife and I were trying to figure out a plan. We had hooks midway-through the house, so backpacks can go there. But they didn’t go there, they got dropped in the middle of the kitchen and the kids took off running. We couldn’t do anything about it because the laundry room is two machines in a narrow hall, and that’s the way in from the garage. That’s the landing zone for everything. Enter the 40” Newport coat hook from Alaterre Furniture, and we’re expecting great results! It is so sturdy, so backpacks should not be a problem. Coats and backpacks, right there at the door, should work great. The rack itself is really, really handsome. My wife loves it, especially the hammer finished center portion that looks like weathered old metal. The end caps add warmth, and the rounded edges everywhere add safety. The whole thing mounts simply on an included cleat—unscrew the top two safety screws holding the cleat in place, find 2-3 studs, level the cleat and screw it in with the included construction screws, hang the rack and tighten the two top safety screws, and the rack is mounted and ready for backpacks. One quick note about the screws. These are the same screws contractors buy, not cheap screws that strip out. They look like the hardware we have on hand—I’m impressed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Dave from disappointed Totally disappointed. I am hoping I am the minority not majority for this coat hook’s issues. I love the aesthetics of the shelf but everything else is poor. The first thing I noticed was on the cleat there was a gouge in the wood, which occurred during production, finishing. It stuck up (ok, if this were only problem, upon affixing cleat to stud, it would be against the wall and no one would ever have known). You remove the cleat from the coat hook in order to affix cleat to wall, which will then hold the coat hook against the wall. A French cleat for hanging is very sturdy way to hang and hence hold the coat hook weight once adding coats/hats. Problem with ours is the coat hanging hooks were installed upside down during factory assembly. You cannot just turn the shelf around and hang it the opposite way as the cleat doesn’t work correctly. I then decided to unscrew the 5 hooks and turn them around (the screw holes do align perfectly) but now the hooks are not centered vertically (as they were at factory install); they sit lower. Additionally, due to how the shelf was painted, assembled, & faux finished you can see the original gray paint vs. the faux concrete finish is no longer consistent upon me turning hooks so coat hook can hang correctly. Quality of item is a 3 as the goods to make it were of high quality, the cleat was a great idea just ours was poorly constructed. My pictures show: the coat hook with instructions next to it (to show directions have the 2 top screw holes & 5 hooks in correct position vs. actual item does not; the gouge in cleat; picture with 2 of 5 hooks removed to turn around (you can clearly see the paint/finish difference); once all 5 hooks were corrected - again; you can see the paint/finish difference - which is much more visible in person than I could make the picture portray. Very displeased and did not meet my expectations for price of item.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very well made with clean distinct features in an upscale rustic look makes this coat hook rack fully functional and seriously attractive. The Newport coat hook rack from Alaterre Furniture (Bolton furniture) is made from wood and is 40 inches long by 6 inches high and 2 inches deep (thick) and weighs in at approx. 9 lbs. The center section is a blue grey with 2 inches on the ends a light brown or tan with the grain going in a different direction. There are 5 double hooks spaced approx. 8 inches apart and the whole item can be cleaned with a damp cloth per OEM. The rack is a two-part unit, a main body with the hooks and then a “cleat” that is mounted securely to the wall. The assembly is to mount the cleat first and then the main body to the cleat. The rack comes with heavy duty sheet rock mollies, but it is recommended that the cleat gets mounted into the studs for the maximum weight support which is 75 lbs. “IF” mounted into studs. The product is made in Vietnam and I found it to be well made with actual screws and not just staples and glue. I give the mounting difficulty a 4 out of 10 with 10 being the most difficult because of finding the studs and using the level. I hung this coat hook in my entry way in under 30 minutes and it looks and works great. Very happy with the product, recommended.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A very substantial 40 in. coat hook with an industrial designer look. It comes completely assembled and ready to hang. Its 9 pounds attest to its substance and rustic industrial style. This rack also very functional, a hanger you'll never overload. This wall hanger suspended from a long wooden cleat has a large 75 pound load capacity. I have provided some photos to help the DIY installer with a few helpful hints I learned the hard way. A line of matching benches and accessories are available that have the same industrial designer look.
