What would be the best tool/method to use to cut this into 3/4" strips? Thinking because of the material and thickness a table saw would result in it mostly ripping it apart. Maybe scoring and snapping? Other suggestions?

Hello Zigboo, thank you for your inquiry. We recommend cutting these boards on a table saw with a fine tooth saw blade. Can this be used as a backing for cabinets/shelving units? Will it help to prevent lateral swaying?

Can this board be cut by hand? Also, what paint would work best and how much weight can the board take?

I bought this recently and cut using table saw. It cut smoothly. I used primer and indoor wall paint on mine to reface powder room cabinets. Worked great! No comment on weight or pressure, but it does seem more decorative than structural.

Does this panel contain formaldehyde?

Hello Jkln, thank you for your inquiry. MDF is manufactured by refining woodchips and sawdust down to a microscopic level and then bonding these fibers together with a urea-formaldehyde resin. Most homes today have both particle board and MDF substrates for their cabinetry and furniture. Formaldehyde emissions from MDF and particle board are strictly controlled. The industry standard for formaldehyde emissions is set at 0.3 parts per million however, the MDF used by Alexandria Moulding conforms to the latest Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) and California Air Resource Board (CARB) Phase 2 standard for formaldehyde emissions which is set at 0.1 ppm. Emissions are always highest when the product is new. Emission levels begin to decay immediately after production and are usually at half the initial amount in about 6 months. Within a year, these levels have usually decayed to approximately background ambient levels. Formaldehyde emissions from MDF can be reduced by as much as 95% with a sealing finish. When paint is applied, an effective moisture barrier is created further decreasing the level of formaldehyde emissions. We hope this information helps you in the planning of your current project.
