The pond boss Water Clarifier quickly clears cloudy water by eliminating floating particles and organic matter. The Water Clarifier formula contains de-ionized water and polymers. Rated 3 out of 5 by from Installation problems but good pump I purchased this pump to use outside my pond, and the manufacturer verified it could be used externally (non-submerged). I found it wasn't well designed for that purpose. The intake coupler is simply glued in place so it came right off when I attached the pipe to it. The manufacturer was very helpful though and sent me a replacement part free of charge quickly. The output coupling is also questionable as it is plastic on plastic thread and started leaking out immediately. Nothing that a lot of teflon tape could not fix but it should have been designed with a washer in place. The pump is now functional, it is very quiet and works really well in spite of the installation hiccups.

1 1/2" tubing for the outflow?

Is there any reason this pump couldn't be used to power a home made fountain??

This pump is more suited for a waterfall or a stream, at 5500 GPH that's a lot for a fountain, but yes it can be used for that, if the amount of GPH is right, after you calculate the head pressure you have, then i don't see why not. The size of hose or pipe you use will also change the character of the output, choose right and you can go from a shooting strait up jet to a soft burbling flow with a lot of water to give a nice cascade effect. If you use a bypass valve you can divert water back to the main water feature and thus control the fountain jet or jets, you see this more often when you have to get a pump that is more than you need because next smaller pump before this one wont do the job or just for the fact of being able to change the fountain looks as you desire with the adjustment of one valve. There are several website that can help you calculate the head pressure, cant list them, last time i tried my answer was not posted. good luck.

Can a rheostat or dimmer switch be used with this pump to control the stream and wattage used, if it is too powerful for a large pond on the property? Also what about caping the top of a 1.5” pvc pipe and drilling holes in it to effect a streaming effect?
