When started, a sound is noticeable. It sounds like a flap opened or closed. Is this normal, or was my unit improperly installed? Previous unit had no such sound. Cons (-.5 stars): The display is a bit difficult to see. The contrast is low. Buttons are slightly difficult to press. I recommend as a basic OTR unit, if venting is not a priority. I wish it had a middle light level, too.

After six months of use, the interior light was intermittent. The attached video shows a 14 second delay. Then the door sensor became unreliable which prevented heating anything. Thirdly, if something was heated, the door sensor would be faulty again which prevented further use. A new keypad and door sensor were ordered today (12/20/17) by tech repair. FYI, no videos uploads permitted here. The interior light had a delay after door was opened. Heating again became hit or miss. This appliance became defective after six months. Manufactured in March '17.

Had a service person come today and held a small piece of paper to the vent and showed it works fine. I told him it doesn't work, especially on the front burners, the smoke/exhaust comes out into the room. I've watched while cooking and even the back burners doesn't exhaust through the fan. His response was that is how they all our now. I disagree....the microwave we just took out (because it wasn't stainless) had an exhaust that worked fine. The exhaust fan is weak, and not functional. Also takes a long time to defrost anything. The owners manual is worthless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Microwave I really like this microwave. I was prepared to spend a significant amount more but I came across this microwave. It does everything I want a microwave to do and it did not cost me a lot ($169). It is easy to use and it is quietest one I found to open and close the door on. It doesn't make the usual loud Ka-chunk sound when opening or closing the door. I even turned off all the annoying beeping sounds. The microwave has all the basic settings, to include the popcorn and 30 second feature, and it looks nice with my other stainless steel appliances. I am glad it does not have any manufacturer logos on the exterior so it doesn't matter if it doesn't match the brand of my other appliances. I consider this a really good deal and I would do it again in a minute.

I purchased this microwave on Christmas Eve of 2016 and it broke down on me easily even with careful care and usage. The customer service kept is incompetent and rude. They never came to work on my product because they did not communicate between themselves well. They tried to blame me for their mistakes and I am STILL waiting for my microwave to be repaired. Don't do business with Amana unless you can handle the stress.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice looking, works great, huge inside, Taller than we thought [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This microwave is very spacious inside. It has enough vertical room that it could have come with a shelf grate. The depth is fine but we noticed that the turnstyle plate is actually a little small. The face of the microwave does not bear any badges or company names which makes it look even better, especially if you're concerned with unmatched brand names in your kitchen. The control panel takes a little getting used to since the "Cook Time" button must be pressed before you enter a custom time (which, yeah it's just one extra button to push, but hey). Also it does have pre-programmed buttons like Baked Potato, Popcorn, etc.. but those also require additional input from the user such as quantity etc.. which are just too many extra button pushes for me. The microwave has two options for the "Fan". Recirculation and Exhaust. They provide the door flap for using the external exhaust as well as a couple screws. Also included is the metal filter and there's a nice and bright light for the stove top that works with one push of a button. Lastly, a quick note on installation. Be sure to check the height of your existing unit and make sure you select a new unit with the same height. This unit was about an inch taller than our old unit which reduced the space between the microwave and stovetop. Local codes may dictate the minimum space between the stove and microwave if you are using Gas or LP.

Was looking for a stainless steel microwave to match our other appliances without breaking the bank. Looks good and works just like it is supposed to. My only complaint is that the installation instructions were a little unclear. It is like they packed instructions for every microwave Amana has ever made in one book. Luckily, we were replacing a microwave, so we just did the reverse of what was necessary to remove the old microwave. We are really happy with the microwave itself, but the installation instructions could be a little clearer.
