The rim of the toilet sticks out because the seat and lid are too small and do not fit these toilets. I do not understand how American Standard can manufacture and selltoilets such as these where the parts do not fit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Tank bolt leaked due to casting flaws The unit looks like a quality product from the moment you unpack it, installation was easy but once I filled the tank the bolts dripped ever so slowly. I removed the tank and sure enough there's a casting flaw by the worst leaking bolt, but both leaked even after putting a lot of torque on them. The bowl gasket was in place correctly. The other thing was the grommets on the bolts appeared ripped, and seemed excessive for such a simple seal, it's almost no wonder it leaked. Debating putting silicon or pulling the whole thing out and replacing it. Would appreciate some feedback from either HD or American Standard on this.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Can’t get past the terrible toilet seat We installed the Champion 4 toilet today. I can’t comment on much other than the toilet seat. It’s so uncomfortable. It’s angled forward and the opening isn’t as big as an elongated seat should be. You can’t lean back because the seat lid is so upright. So you are pitched forward and you have to treat it like an express stop. No lingering on that toilet! Also, you have to be aware to hold the flusher for at least a full second for a proper, full flush.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extreme poor quality control I bought and returned 2 of these units, first had crack defect in bowl, second had finish defects at base of unit, I open a third box in store which was also defective, after getting the fourth unit wich I thought was ok and installed it I realized the coulers of the bowl and tank did not match at all. Also the seat is the most uncomfortable thing I have ever sat on. I think I will be Uninstaller the and returning it also.

Is the need to hold the handle down for the whole flush just the way it's made?

No! All you have to do is to push it down, the same as your present toilet. . We have two for over a year and we are very happy with them.

What is the noise rating of this model ? Is the flushing action very noisy or as a normal flush ?

I don't know the noise rating but it is much less noisy for flushing and refilling than our previous toilettes were. It works amazingly well and uses much less water. It also comes with 10 years guarantee.

I already reviewed this toilet and gave it 3 stars. I have held the handle down for a few seconds. The ever clean surface should be called never clean. Anything else you can suggest?

Sorry, don't know what to suggest.  My Champion 4 works great, always clean.  One possibility is your water supply, e.g. chemicals in the water (soft vs hard water).

Home Depot should be able to answer your questions. We bought two white Champion 4 toilets. A friend of ours bought the bone version. We bought ours on line (Home Depot does not carry the Champion in their stores.) I was not aware that it has been updated, I hope Home Depot sent me the latest model.

Is the chrome finish handle replaceable with a true metal one? What is the difference in buying this from Home Depot vs paying more to buy from an independent bath store?

We decided to replace our toilets with comfort size 16 1/2" high. We selected American Standard Champion 4 elongated model and decided to have it installed and the old removed by Home Depot. This was a very good decision. The plumber sent by Home Depot was excellent. We are satisfied with the Champion 4, it is easier to get up, we are amazed how well it works, how little water it is using and it came with 10 years guarantee.

Since my last question was not answered actual questions asked.... Can the plastic handle be replaced with a true metal one? I know what it comes with I'm asking if it can be changed? Also the question was answered about the Champion Max not 4.

Hi JamesL, The Champion Max 4 Toilet is designed only to work with the handle with which it is provided and can not be interchanged for others made by American Standard. As far as how it compares to other Champion models sold at independent store, the process in which the toilets are manufactured are the same, as well as the size of the flush valve at 4", the trapway size 2 3/8", and 10 warranty.
