Rated 3 out of 5 by from Tank bolt leaked due to casting flaws The unit looks like a quality product from the moment you unpack it, installation was easy but once I filled the tank the bolts dripped ever so slowly. I removed the tank and sure enough there's a casting flaw by the worst leaking bolt, but both leaked even after putting a lot of torque on them. The bowl gasket was in place correctly. The other thing was the grommets on the bolts appeared ripped, and seemed excessive for such a simple seal, it's almost no wonder it leaked. Debating putting silicon or pulling the whole thing out and replacing it. Would appreciate some feedback from either HD or American Standard on this.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good flush, difficult to clean The toilet is a good looking piece with a decent flush though the actually flush mechanism in the back is different to traditional toilets and requires you relearn flushing (you have to get in the habit of really holding down the handle to ensure full flush). Cons are that this toilet is extremely tall and for a family of shorter people (I’m 5’4” and my feet just touch while I’m sitting) it can be odd and difficult to get used to. The slow close seat and lid are nice but the seat design is difficult to clean as it’s full of nooks and crannies. We enjoy the toilet, would I purchase again? I don’t think so. Also the picture shows a white flush handle but the one we got is chrome.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Flush I bought this toilet a few days ago and it is probably the worst flushing toilet I have ever installed. I own the Champion 4 in another bathroom but it is the 6L flush. I has an acceptable flush but the new 4.8 is very poor. I had to add to the overflow tube in order to create a higher water line to get a descent flush. The higher water level probably brings it back to a 6L flush. The toilet seat is very uncomfortable. I will be replacing it at an extra cost of about 50 dollars. Now I see why this toilet is only 200 dollars. Don't waste your time and money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bad wax rings I'm a contractor and bought 7 champion 4 toilets because I have one in my home and really liked the flush action (never plugs and never have to flush twice) I would have given it 5 stars but three of the 7 wax rings failed causing water damage. The rings look good when installed but split on an angle around the entire ring. It's like it was made in two pieces and stuck together. Good product, just DON'T use the wax rings.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good, but... We bought this model because of the features. Was easy to install, the flush is great, looks good and takes upo less space than my pervious one. I feel that the toilet seat seems a bit small. Not long after our first uses the toilet started to run every 5 minutes or so. After looking for leaks and trying to adjust every adjustement i could find (water level, lenght of chain, flapper level, etc.). There are no leaks and no other adjustement that i can see or think of. Despite the qualities, a toilet that runs is not acceptable. If i could i would return this as it looks like a design flaw. American Standrad, please fix this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't do it! Worst toilet I've ever purchased. Must hold handle down to flush, but water does not flow into bowl in the proper way to flush waste down in one flush. Really defeats the purpose of low water consumption toilet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from American standard toilet Absolute garbage, one i wanted feom different manufacturer and salesman talked the owner into this one. Stupid thing leaks from the bolts that attach the tank to the bowl, have taken apart 3 times and still leaks. From what i can see the porcelain base where the rubber washers are meant to seal against is a rough finish so water fines its way through. Other issue is it wont do its flushxcycle without holding flush valve down. Went away from American standard for similar issues , if a home owner selects this garabge again I will tell them to get someone else to install. And yes I have installed over 400 toilets so know what I am doing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a good toilet This toilet does not flush good you have to stand there holding the handle to make sure your business goes down terrible flushing system seat is not that great either wish you could see all the toilets better but homedepot has them high on the shelf where you can't check the toilets out properly

Bad flapper and bowl and tank cracks in so many reviews make me rethink buying this toilet. Is quality control lacking at American Standard? Home Depot customer service seems good, but not American Standard. The toilet will be 3 hours from the store!

Asked by: Martb
I had no issues with this toilet. I even bought the wrong one but in the end, it was a good one.

What is the noise rating of this model ? Is the flushing action very noisy or as a normal flush ?

Asked by: Langevin
I don't know the noise rating but it is much less noisy for flushing and refilling than our previous toilettes were. It works amazingly well and uses much less water. It also comes with 10 years guarantee.

I already reviewed this toilet and gave it 3 stars. I have held the handle down for a few seconds. The ever clean surface should be called never clean. Anything else you can suggest?

Asked by: jenbull
Sorry, don't know what to suggest.  My Champion 4 works great, always clean.  One possibility is your water supply, e.g. chemicals in the water (soft vs hard water).

Is this available in bone or linen? And is it the updated model?

Asked by: Mrs Shopper
Home Depot should be able to answer your questions. We bought two white Champion 4 toilets. A friend of ours bought the bone version. We bought ours on line (Home Depot does not carry the Champion in their stores.) I was not aware that it has been updated, I hope Home Depot sent me the latest model.

Is the need to hold the handle down for the whole flush just the way it's made?

Asked by: Anglesax
Hello Anglesax, With the Champion toilet, you simply need to hold the handle for a couple seconds until the water begins to move inside the bowl. This allows the water in the tank to begin flowing under the large 4" flapper and prevent it from dropping down prematurely and providing a powerful flush. However, due to the Large 4" flapper, this is the nature of the Champion toilet.
