Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good so far…but too early to accurately review After a month of use the pump has operated as expected. My pond has a 4ft climb to the filter, then gravity back to pond. The 3500 is ok for flow but in hindsight I should have gone with the next larger pump. Consider this when purchasing. You’re able to adjust the flow rate, a very handy feature. If it lasts 3+ years I will be happy with investment….anything less there are cheaper options with equal life span. Would be 5 star if it lasts that long…

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Loads of features but very poor performance While this pump is versatile in the way the output can be easily adjusted to a number of positions, the flow rate adjusted by simply pushing a button and lower running costs than similar size pumps where it will fail for many people is the lack of the ability to pump a large volume of water beyond a head height of 1 or 2 feet. I purchased it for the features noted above but when I connected it to my koi pond filter system hoping to replace an existing pump I found it completely unable to move even a small amount of water through my filters with an overall combined distance/head height of 5 to 6 feet. Even set at 100% the pump delivered less than 25% of what my existing pump could deliver. Needless to say this pump is no good for me and I will be returning it to Home Depot. If you are looking for a pump to power a low level waterfall and have adjustment functionality this could be the pump for you. If you require a pump that can deliver a large volume of water over long distances or head height this is not the one. Based on my experience I do not recommend this pump.

Thanks for the great question. The cost to operate this pump (or any other) can be calculated relatively easily, with the use of a few variables including the operation time, the energy use (variable with this model) and the charge per kilowatt-hour (which will vary by region). For this pump, at the current (March 2020) National average of 17.4 cents/kWh, it would cost approximately $0.023 per hour, or $0.56 per day at its maximum setting running non-stop. This pump allows you to adjust the energy use, so the examples illustrates a maximum energy use scenario.
