Rated 2 out of 5 by from Do not use for pipe clamps Bought these pipe to use as clamps to pair with some 1/2" Bessey pipe clamps fixtures. The way these are sold, there are two stickers on each end of the pipe that are basically melted on to the pipe and are VERY difficult to remove, it is a very dirty process and I had to bang in the clamps for it to slide. The large middle section of the pipes are very smooth for the pipe clamps but once you hit the two ends where the stickers used to be, you will find it is near impossible to get the clamps through those areas. I don't know what it is but all six of the clamps I bought had the same issue and if I had to extend the clamp to get maximum reach they will not go. I sanded down the edges and lubricate and only got 2 clamps to come back out. For 90% of the work I do, these pipes work fine as pipe clamps but if you need to take the clamps off this pipe, good luck. If you want to get these for pipe clamps stay away, they are hard to clean, the sticker is essentially melted on to the iron and takes lots of work to remove. Even when it is removed, it is very tough to get a clamp through that area and tends to jam up.

Will this pipe rust if used as a clamp in aa uninsulated garage in New England?

Asked by: Newbie60
Thank you for your inquiry, Newbie60. Black pipe will most likely rust in that environment. You can either clean and paint the pipe it to protect it from rusting, or you can purchase the same pipe with a galvanized finish (hot-dipped in zinc) which will protect it from rust.

There are galvanized versions. The black ones are not; straight up steel and will rust if not painted.
