Rated 4 out of 5 by from We used liquid nails I found this on clearance at our local Home Depot and it was the right color for our kitchen. First of all, I love the look of this slate. It has a slight blue color to it but mostly looks charcoal. We installed it a little differently. I read the reviews and saw that people had trouble getting the tile to stick. The instructions say to stick it to a clean smooth surface and to use a soapy water solution to activate the adhesive on the back. We have textured walls and I was not about to sand them and have a huge dusty mess when they might not stick anyway, based on reviews. So we installed 1/2 inch plywood on the wall first, and then painted it a dark blue grey color that matched. (The tile does have small gaps between some of the pieces so a lighter background will show through.) After the paint dried we peeled off the paper backing and applied liquid nails and then stuck the tile to the painted plywood. Eventually we switched the white outlets out for gray ones. I’m pleased with the finished product. We used a circular saw to cut the tile, which is somewhat fragile and does crumble a bit. The project took a couple hours and looks great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love them. Very easy to use. Very easy to cut. 10% were defects. Stone flakes off easy when you cut and sometimes comes off in big chunks.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's Okay.. easy to stick on. It looks ok once it's on, but its much thinner than anticipated. It's a little junky but once it's on unless you're analyzing it up close it's ok.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tiles fall off Nice product . But is falling off wall. Besides that love the product

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Looks nice, a bit flimsy We followed exact instructions and still had to re-glue it. The material itself feels a little cardboard-ish. I just hope it stands up to what I need it for.

I rent an apartment where the rules are basically if you paint/decorate you just have to restore back to white when moving out. If i buy these for the kitchen, will removal be simple (what if i use an extra adhesive as well?) can i paint after?

Asked by: Ashley
We've removed these tiles and it left a mess underneath. The top layer of drywall tore off and left a big mess of the wall. We ended up placing new stick on tiles after priming the surface.

I purchased about 9 of these for a backsplash in our kitchen. Everything went well with the install but some cooking oil was splashed onto the wall and it leaves a stain. How do you clean this stains? The material seems very fragile.

Asked by: Jeremy
Unfortunately these tiles need to be sealed prior to a mishap - similar to marble. At this point I'd take a left-over piece of this tile and splash some oil on it. Let it soak in like the backsplash did and then see if the sealer will change the color to all be dark. You can also scour the internet for remedies to try to leach the oil out of if but I'd experiment on the extra tiles if possible. Hope that I've been of some help.

Hello, can it be installed on Regular painted drywall or do I need additional adhesive? Regards

Asked by: SJSS
Thank you for your interest in our Charcoal Slate Peel and Stick Stone Backsplash Tile! Our tiles can be installed over a substrate that is smooth, clean, flat and dry. As stated in our installation guide that will accompany the tiles, we recommend prepping your substrate with a fresh coat of stand-alone primer prior to installing the panels. If you prefer not to prime your walls, we recommend using additional adhesive in the form of PL Premium by Loctite to ensure adhesion. If you have additional installation or product questions, please feel free to reach out to our customer care team at 800.434.3750. Thanks again!

I actually have 2 questions 1. Can this product be used on the upper portion of a fireplace surround on a 3-sided fireplace 2. If the answer is yes to the first question, how do you wrap around a 90 degree outside corner.

Asked by: Susan
Thank you for your interet in our Charcoal Slate Peel and Stick Stone Backsplash Tiles. Our panels can be used on any surface that is smooth, clean, flat and dry. The panels are class A fire rated and can withstand up to 140 degrees of heat, however anything above that may result in adhesive failure. Since the tiles are made of real stone, we do not recommend attempting to bend them around any curved surface or angle. You will want to butt the tiles up to one another or use an edge finishing piece where the tiles meet if you prefer. If you have any additional installation questions please contact our customer care team at 800.434.3750. Thanks again!

Is this product textured or flat (i.e. do the stones stick out at all from the wall)?

Asked by: Mand
Thank you for your great question! Our Charcoal Slate Peel and Stick Stone Backsplash Tiles are made of real sedimentary stone and do have some texture and profile to them. However, since they are a natural material the profiles will vary from tile to tiles in height; i.e. our Slates tend to be a bit flatter in appearance, where as our Quartz tiles to have a bit more protrusion to them; just like in nature). If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact our customer care team at 800.434.3750. Thanks again!

Can this tile be used on the floor?

Asked by: Char55
Thank you for your interest in using our Charcoal Slate Peel and Stick Stone Backsplash Tile! We do not recommend installing our products on a working surface such as a countertop or floor. While normal bumps and contact is fine, the product is not warrantied to withstand constant blunt force applied to it and may damage the tile. If you have additional product questions please feel free to reach out to our customer care team at 800.434.3750. Thanks again!

Can this be installed over existing tile?

Asked by: Trish
The stone tiles can be installed over existing tile. It is recommended to use additional adhesive. The adhesive that is recommend is PL Premium by Loctite. If the existing tile is very glossy, it should be sanded slightly so that the adhesive can adhere properly.
