Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product despite minor design flaw The product is well built and installation wasn’t difficult. It’s been operating perfectly for for me for nine months now. It does seem to me though that the designers missed the mark on one aspect. You’ll have to have two separate wall receptacles nearby because the AC adapter block (Backup Pump Controller battery charger) and the Primary Pump Controller unit cannot be plugged together into the same duplex wall receptacle contrary to what is shown in the product’s installation manual. The location of the output cord from the Primary Pump Controller prevents the AC adapter block from being plugged into the adjoining plug in the same receptacle. How this got past the design stage is beyond me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, works as promised Install was easy. Power went out once briefly and alarm sounded. Has been operating successfully for about a month. One note for potential buyers: I ordered the 1/2 HP because of it being a basement installation. If. The water needs to be pumped up above a certain height threshold (I think it was 8ft), the 1/4 HP won't cut it. I got this information from the Basement Watchdog customer service. I called them before making a purchase decision to ask more detailed questions about the differences between both models. They were very helpful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Peace of mind ! Last month I installed this for my sister and brother-in-law at their home. It was exactly what they were looking for: pump redundancy (2 pumps), power backup if hydro is out and compact enough to fit in a 12” square sump pit. And as a bonus, with the optional wifi module, you can monitor it while away and it sends alerts if an issue. Buy the unit, the battery and the wifi module. They’re sold separately. It all installed easily for any average DIYer. I would have rated it a 5 but longevity is key and it’s too early to say.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Needed some peace of mind... I purchased this combination after we had a significant flood caused by the plunger on our old sump pump jamming against the sump pit wall. I have tried multiple sump pumps and what intrigued me about this pump was the compact multiple float system. The Watchdog system came in a few days and I installed it in about 30 minutes. I have pvc rigid pipes running from the pump up about 3 ft to a 90º elbow and out the sump line. The first night after installation we had a second flood, but at no fault of the Watchdog system. This pump is so powerful it blew the pvc pipe right out the sump line in the wall and pumped the water right back into my basement. I fixed this problem by securing the discharge line, as you can see in one of the attached pictures. My second challenge was figuring out how to reposition the floats to allow a certain amount of water to remain in the sump pit so it wouldn't run constantly. You can remove the floats and re-position them up the pipe and clamp them back in place. It took a bit of experimenting to get this right, but after a bit my the floats are positioned just right. Of note, this pump is quiet compared to every other sump pump we have had and as a result I am going to order the Wi-Fi module to receive alerts. It's a bit unnerving not to hear the pump come on every once in a while. My first impressions are very positive and I highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Peace of Mind was easy to install After more than a couple basement floods we replaced our sump pump with this all in one system. We haven’t had a flooded basement since. We also bought the wifi controller to give us added peace of mind when we were out and about. Very easy to install, we did it ourselves in about an hour. No special skills and no fancy tools required.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sump Pump Review Great product except the control keeps beeping and the test button doesn't work to test that the pump is working.

Will both pumps run if the primary pump cannot keep up?

Asked by: plumbingaway
I believe so. As long as you have 120 vac and the DC pump backup battery is charged.  I would not do this on a regular basis only on rare occasions there is excess water. Contact the Basement Watchdog manufacturer support online or by telephone to verify. 1-800 991 0466

Model # BW4000|Store SKU # 1001050193 Does the ½ HP Big Combo with backup system come with a battery box like the separate backup system?

Asked by: Joel
The one I purchased a while back hich I still have came with a box cover to store a battery and protect it from whatever. The Battery is sold separately. The required Battery to get the full maintence alert experience is very expensive unless you purchase other brands.

Will this pump work for a sump pit that pumps grey water from a washing machine?

Asked by: derkydoo
Can't see why not, as long as the float has enough water to start up. It drains our sump pit very quickly, so should work.

Does this product come with a battery? Thanks

Asked by: William
No. But make sure you get a heavey duty slow trickle battery. I think the best battery is a 'marine' battery, not an auto battery. A battery-only shop like BatteryBoy is best, they are the experts. A department store battery is not the best unless it is specified for 'sump pump' use only. A farm supply company might also have this type of battery.

What is the current draw for this system?

Asked by: Dereck
Dereck, it uses 110 regular plug. But you must purchase a Marine Battery. I purchased on from Battery Boy for under $100.00 The draw on the battery I have no clue.

I have the 1/3 HP Model DFK961. Issues with the back up pump. Glentronics suggested it may be due to number of elbows on discharge (2), 9 ft. Will this model 1/2 HP fit in same 5 gal pail (12 in diameter as the 1/3 HP? Width top of pail is 12 in.

Asked by: Gilles
Every pump has a maximum amount of pressure it can overcome. This is referred to as “head pressure” and is measured in vertical feet. Every elbow adds an additional foot of head pressure. The backup system on the Basement Watchdog Combo has a max head of 10 feet. The backup pump on the Basement Watchdog Big Combo has a max head of 14 feet. the main pump works fine but the backup pump doesn't draw water. I tested several times. It hums, motors works, but doesn't draw water.. Blockage somewhere ?? Not too reliable considering the price paid for peace of mind.

Asked by: Gilles
Possible air lock in the backup pipe. Ensure the bleeder hole is not plugged as this is required to eliminate air lock.
