Rated 2 out of 5 by from Both pumps failed. I've had this pump now for 26 months (2 months past warranty). The past Saturday I could hear the pump running and running, went downstairs to find that the primary pump had failed to activate, and the backup pump wouldn't shut off (there was no water left in the pit). I reset the backup pump, and filled the pit manually with water to test the primary pump - it worked fine this time. However, I don't trust either pump now. Spending $419 for a pump with a backup pump was supposed to put my mind to rest.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good idea. Terrible pump. Terrible support. I bought the whole backup pump and battery unit a year ago. Since then, I've had more plumbing repair expenses than I paid for the units. First call to the company: they had no record of my warranty. Second call: well, they just don't return calls. More plumbing repairs. After a year, I yanked it out and put a good old fashioned sump pump in. No alarms in the middle of the night. No wondering why the main pump has failed to start (again). Yes, a backup pump is a good idea (I'm still searching)...just not this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Basement saver I have had this pump just over 2 years. One extended power outage and it paid for it's self many times over. Recently the switch partially failed meaning the pump continued to run longer than it should. The company sent me a new switch even though it was 2 months out of warranty. This is the mark of a great company with outstanding customer service and a product they stand behind. PS. I bought an upgraded marine battery (does not off gas while being charged) with long run times. Worth it in the end, power was out over 12 hours. Bare in mind the run time rating is for how long the pump runs, not the power outage.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Short life span I bought this system about 3 years ago and all has been well till now. The alarm was going off for the backup being active. So I manually activated the main pump and water sprayed all over my walls and laundry appliances. At that point I pulled the unit out of the sump and the side metal jacket is completely rotten. And of course we are currently having a large rainfall and expect at least 2 inches of rain. So I am left relying on a small battery backup to keep my freshly renovated basement dry ( bought this system after my basement flooded 3 years ago). So not a great return on investment. When I purchased this it was almost 500 and it lasted 3 years. Since the backup has a bracket that directly mounts to the main pump I either have to buy the whole system again or replace the whole system with a different brand. Overall the size is great but 3 years for 500 bucks is ridiculous.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not good for heavy flow Every spring and most falls, we have a steady flow of water into our sump. When the main pump float activates, the pump is on a 10 second timer. This is not enough and pump is turning on about once a minute. After two years, its blown a gasket, water is gushing out from the pump when it operates. Would not recommend this product for anything resembling heavy sump pump inflow.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from very disappointed We bought Watchdog as we needed coverage when the power went off. so we purchase the basement watch dog in June 2017. we had to put the previous sump pump back in the other day as their is a hole in the wall of the big watchdog pump. Also the Watchdog pump out time is very short which makes the pump have to pump out way more. I can't believe the poor quality of this product. I would not recommend this product

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product matched with the battery I bought this along with the matenence free battery shortly after moving into my new house, the sump that was there previously had failed because the free floating bauble got stuck on the walls of the... well.. sump? The hole that the pump sits in. And it didn’t activate. It was during a storm the I decided to go and get this new pump and my well was filling every 2 minutes. After preparing the new pump outside the hole changing over the tube on top was easily done in the time that I had. I decided to not hook up the battery backup until the storm was over. When hooking it up I had an issue where the alarm would not stop going off. This was solved by putting the acid dip stick on the positive lead from the battery. The support that I was talking with was very knowledgeable about the product and knew exactly the problem and how to fix it. I’ve also learned that there is a hole in the pipe for the backup pump that is used to make sure the backup pump is fully submerged before it’s activated protecting the pump from dry running. Fast forward 11 months to today. Hurricane Dorian just swept through here and I’ve been without power for 6 days so far. Today I tested the battery to make sure it hasn’t fell below 12v and to my surprise the battery is still nearly FULLY charged I can’t recommend this product enough, never in my life have I had something that has worked so well with such good support behind it. 10/10 would buy again but I don’t think I’ll need to.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Faulting from day 1 System keeps faulting saying back up pump was activated. Water is not even close to making the float switch for the backup pump. So now I have to buy another one and install it all over again. 30 year electrician here, so not improperly installed

Does this system include the battery box as well? I’ve seen different answers.

Asked by: JR1979
This system doesn't include the battery box. Some battery or auto part stores in Canada should carry those. If you get a group size 30 battery box that would be large enough to fit any one of our batteries. For more information feel free to contact our service team at 800-991-0466 option 3. We are here to help from 9-5 Monday - Friday Central time.

Does this system include a battery? Thanks

Asked by: William
Hi, the watchdog battery was a separate purchase. There were two compatible sizes, I chose the larger that could run for up to 2 days depending on usage. The price difference was minimum as well.

I purchased the watchdog sump pump with battery backup and after installation the main pump works fine but has a high pitch squeal when pumping .I read in the booklet it has a built in check valve and my line has a check valve could this be the problem

Asked by: rubbs
We do not recommend having another check valve in the discharge line above the system, as the system does have its own built-in check valves. This can cause several different problems. I would remove the check valve that you have in the line and replace it with a rubber union or a piece of rigid PVC pipe. If you still need assistance, or for more information, please contact our customer support team at 800-991-0466, option 3. We are available to take incoming calls from 9am - 5pm CT Monday through Friday.

I have my washing machine running into the water basin , Will this pump be able to handle the soapy water ? My old pump has no problem with this but it's time for a replacement and I would like to try this one if it works .

Asked by: koolkatz
Our pumps are not recommended for use in a well that contains soap or any other chemicals. They are intended for use with clear, ground or rain water. The soap tends to build up and causes the float switch to get stuck. Regular maintenance will help to avoid this situation. A pump with a vertical switch would probably work much better in your application. Should you have any other questions, please feel free to call our Technical Support Team at 1-800-991-0466, Option 3. We appreciate your interest in our products.
