Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to install, works well Relatively easy to install, particularly if you've done any kind of work with ABS/PVC piping previously. The only real unexpected hurdle was getting appropriate holes in the sump cover for the additional piping without actually destroying the sump cover or compromising the seal. A standard hole saw bit worked well. A general note on this particular model for anyone who might have missed this. There is no way to connect this to the WiFi module should you want to do so in the future. If you want this kind of connectivity buy the appropriate model up front that includes WiFi connectivity.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 1/4 HP is on the light side for a sump pump. It works, but on the expensive side when you add the cost of a battery, The pump could be a little bigger or at least have the option to get a 1/3 or 1/2 HP pump. The lift on my sump is about 8 Feet and this pump strains to push the water out but it does pump the water out slowly. I added a check valve to this line as it runs independent to the main sump pump system. The other thing to be aware of is the size of the connection on this system, had to search around to find a reducer to match the 1.5: ABS pipe on my drain line. For all these reasons I gave this system a 3 star rating. mainly due to the fact it works, but could be better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very solid backup Using it to backup a 1/2 HP pump and i am pumping straight up close to 10 ft, then about 50 yards horizontally. Where my main pump takes a minute or 2 to drain the pit, this is probably 4 or 5 mins which is great and exactly what i was hoping. Very solid backup and not hard to set up.

Will a 12V automotive battery with Cranking Amps (@ 0°C): 505 work to power the system? If so, what kind of run time would you estimate?

Asked by: Jaclyn
CCA are measured over a 30second period of full load but in no way indicate the reserve capacity of the battery. It’s best to use a Deep Cycle Battery for its reserve capacity is 2-3x that of a comparable Car Battery.

Is it necessary to drill hole in discharge line to prevent air locks.  Never had to do it with existing ac sump pump

Asked by: Romeobud
Yes it is. I also HAD to do this my existing AC sump pump. Maybe it depends on the sump pump type.....but I would definitely do what they say.

Hi. Does this unit include the battery? No mention that I can see if it is included or not. Thanks in advance.

Asked by: Charles
Hi, I bought the unit only to discover that the unit did not include a battery. I went to the Depot store & bought the battery separately for $200. To use any other battery would void any claim you might make if the unit fails. Easy Instal & seems to work well,,,cost was about $350-$400 all in

Is it easy to install this product or should I hire a plumber? Also, how close does the battery pack have to be to the actual pump? It looks like a large battery and I want to ensure I have the proper space.

Asked by: Lind
You can read through the installation manual which will describe all the installation methods in detail and decide whether or not this is something you feel comfortable doing yourself. If you wanted to read through the manual ahead of time you can find it on our website at www.basementwatchdog.com under the manuals section. The battery would need to be within 10 feet of the sump pump itself. For more information I would recommend contacting our service team at 800-991-0466 option 3.

Is it necessary to keep battery charger "ON" all the time? I am concerned about overcharging.

Asked by: nairam1
The slide switch on that control panel is for the audible alarm feature on that system. That switch should be set to “ON” during normal standby conditions. The battery charger should be plugged in at all times, since the system is designed to maintain a fully charged battery. It will not overcharge it. For more information, contact our customer support team at 800-991-0466, option 3. We are available to take incoming calls from 9am – 5pm CT Monday through Friday.

I'd like to modify this pump for a more remote use. Does anybody know if I'd be able to put an end on it to plug into a vehicle's lighter socket? I'm not an electrical wiz obviously.

Asked by: thomcat
This system will not operate off of a vehicle’s lighter socket. It is designed for basement sump applications and requires the use of a 12V, deep-cycle battery. This is different from an automotive battery. For more information, please contact our customer support team at 800-991-0466, option 3. We are available to take incoming calls from 9am – 5pm CT Monday through Friday.
