Rated 1 out of 5 by from Primer that hardly bonds Having tough time using this primer, opted for the smooth laminated furniture surface and tiles, it didn't work on both as against what is claimed in the product label. With repeated effort to apply with brush and roller the primer hardly bonded and even for the areas where it does, the paint is peeling off even after allowing it to dry for a day. Avoid this product if not you will end up re-sanding and reworking with a different primer for the entire project.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must for cabinet painting Great consistency and covers very well. It did not void the need to sand, but I wasn’t taking any chances with my cabinets anyways so sanding was a must. Would definitely recommend and would definitely use again.

I have older cupboards that were painted with white melamine about 20 years ago.  I’m wanting to repaint them.  Can this be used as a primer and will it stick to the melamine’s gloss finish? Thanks!

Asked by: Chipchickee69

Would this make painting melamine sheets possible? Would I have to sand/scuff the surface first?

Asked by: Lindsey
Hi Lindsey, thank you for writing in. You can certainly apply our 432 Bonding Primer over melamine. While the product is designed to go over surfaces without first scuff sanding them, I recommend applying the primer in a small area to test for adhesion after cleaning the surface. If the primer is having difficulties adhering, scuff sand the surface before priming the entire project. -Michael

Can I add colour to this product? I need it in light gray for an epoxy countertop project.

Asked by: Henry
Hi Henry. Thanks for your question. Yes, our Bonding Primer No. 432 can be tinted to a pale gray. Also, I want to let you know that our products aren't recommended for countertops. Our products aren't FDA approved for food contact and may not hold up to the frequent water exposure, cleanings, and use a typical countertop gets. I recommend working with your local store for possible suggestions on a primer to use for your countertop project. Have a nice day! -Joni

Would this primer work on a steel entry door? I tried painting my front door awhile back not realizing that the latex indoor paint I'd purchased would not adhere with the primer I used. Want to make sure I get the right one this time!

Asked by: Michelle
Hi Michelle, thank you for your question. The Bonding Primer will adhere to steel. The surface should be sound, clean, and dry. You can topcoat with water-based or oil-based paint in one hour or more. Good luck with your project! -Giovanna

Would this primer work for gutters and downspouts? What paint to use after I prime it? thanks

Asked by: Jay here
Hi Jay here - Thanks for your question! Our Bonding Primer is a great choice for gutters and downspouts and can be topcoated with the water or oil-based paint of your choice. Please keep in mind that we don't recommend applying this primer to the inside of your gutters as it wasn't designed to be submerged in water. Best - Sara
