Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved this paint I had a massive undertaking - cover walls of an 800 sq foot living room, plus hallway and stairwell. When we moved in, the walls were a dark, dusty rose colour. I had used Behr paint before and been happy with it, and I was NOT prepared to do more than one coat for this large space! I chose Silhouette colour (light grey) and bought four gallons, and not only did it completely cover in one coat, I had enough paint left to do my 150 sq foot bedroom. I can't rave enough about the quality of this paint. It goes on thick, but if you are a reasonably skilled painter you will get accustomed quickly.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not "one-coat" coverage I feel I must comment on Behr's claims of one-coat coverage, not only for this particular paint, but others in their line, as well. I am an experienced painter, both of interior surfaces and furniture, and I have never found, even with exacting preparation, that any Behr paint, even with primer included, covers in one coat. Be advised that, should you choose a Behr product, you should still prime, or be prepared to apply at least two coats on any surface. Using this Behr Marquee in a satin finish, I am looking at using 3 coats over a properly sanded, light pine cabinet I'm currently painting. Although Behr's quality is very good, I feel that consumers are being misled about the ability of this paint to cover in only one coat.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hard to gauge amount needed It says one coat.. and it seems that it IS possible with some colours. I managed to paint Art District and Diva Glam with one coat.. however, Japanese Koi was a complete fail! I love the colour--after 2 coats. It is IMPOSSIBLE that this one could be done in one coat. If you put it on too thick, it's runny.. and one coat leaves uneven brush and roller marks. I used it in two different rooms (one over yellow paint pictured.. and another over a pastel mauve) and had the same issue both times. This makes it difficult to decide on how much paint you'll need if doing an area that would supposedly only need a quart.. if only one coat is required. It's unfortunate, as I love the look of quality of the paint on the wall!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst paint ever! I've been painting for over 30 years. I bought this paint on the recommendation of the Behr rep that happened to be in the store when I was looking for some paint. He suggest that I try this paint because of the one coat feature and the durability. This stuff is garbage! It is so thick and drys so fast that it starts to gum up as soon as you put it on. If I see him again I'm going to make him come over and sand the windows frames that I put it on. It looks terrible. It's all gooey and wavy. I can't imagine using it on the walls. What a waste of time and money. I would highly recommend that you do not use this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best I have been painting as trade for over 40 years . I have always shyed away from products claiming one coat coverage both roofers and paint . I was talked into buying this Behr product by the HD employee and I'm very glad he did . This paint is amazing the first job I used mission control a very very dark grey over pale yellow it covered perfectly in one coat no problem at all . You do have to slowdown a bit and keep the roller fun that is it . This is a huge savings in time for me as you can imagine and time is money. Just want to that the employee and Behr for amazing product .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our #1 paint these days! Over the last 6 years, most of our house has been painted in Marquee (eggshell finish) and it's held up just like day one. It's durable, and washable, and every room still looks like the day we painted it no matter how much use and abuse it takes. I'm someone who used to be a hardcore BM Aura diehard for paint, but I'm a total convert to Marquee and feel it performs better, at a fraction the cost of Aura. We always do two coats, and if we go over a really dark colour have pre-primed as well - don't get caught up in the "one coat and no priming" marketing - any painter knows you'll get the best finish with two coats and proper priming when needed ;)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best paint for deep colours This paint was great to work with. As one other reviewer noted, it's thick and it dries pretty fast -- but I consider those advantages. It helps to have one person cutting with another rolling. I've always hated painting, especially the cutting part. This stuff was amazing to work with and almost made the painting enjoyable. We did an entire theatre room in a dark earth-tone in about 1.5 hours. It DID take some minor touch ups where we had rolled a little too thin but I honestly can't knock the paint for that. Personal preference probably has a lot to do with whether or not you would like this paint; I detest putting on 4-5 coats to get a clean, beautiful finish. Five stars!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Easy Pour Lid - Useless! I just wasted 30 minutes trying to open the "Easy Pour Lid". I thought I was going to break the plastic lid. I eventually pried off the whole lid and was going to use a universal paint can pour lid I bought at Home Depot but it doesn't fit this can. I had to soak the easy pour lid it warm water as when the service rep showed me the colour paint got in the threads of the easy pour lid and sealed it shut. Now every time I use this lid I will have to remove it and wash it before putting it away so as to not get paint in the threads. The paint seems good but a $65 it should. I would never buy a paint can with this lid again. Please go back to a metal paint lid.

Can this paint be used on a bathroom ceiling?

Asked by: JSB2
I think usually a flat white is used for a ceiling, but I am fairly certain it can. This is the best paint to work with, and I compared it directly to the Sico equivalent when I was painting my house, and I prefer this paint.

My daughter wants a wall of 7 stripes of different colour.  The wall isn't large so I don't need a lot of paint and I'd like to buy the sample size.  Will there be any issues if I used the paint from the sample?

Asked by: Cindy
Hi Cindy, thanks for reaching out. We appreciate your interest in our products. Our samples are designed to help you visualize the color you'd like to use in the space you're painting. Therefore, we normally recommend, once you've narrowed down your color choices using the samples, to recoat your surface with the appropriate paint you are planning on using. Keep in mind that our Marquee paint is also available in quarts, for your convenience, for instances where the project is smaller. We hope this information is helpful. Happy painting, and best of luck with your project. Have a great day. -Joanna

How do you choose a colour online so its a quick pickup?

Asked by: Seymour
Hi Seymour, we appreciate you reaching out and your interest in our products. Our Marquee paint can be tinted and purchased at your local Home Depot store, or online on their website. To find the color you want your paint tinted to, we'd suggest typing the color name followed by the line you'd like the paint in (e.g., Cameo White Marquee paint) in the search box of the store's webpage to populate all of the available container sizes in that tone and place your order. If you have any additional questions, we'd suggest reaching out directly to Home Depot's Customer Service department at 1-800-430-3376 (between 6 a.m. and 2 a.m. EST) for further assistance with placing your order. Best of luck with your project. Have a great day. -Joanna

can this paint be used to paint finished pine? i have the select grade pine with a smooth finish and no knots but there are knots on the back side. will i need to prime with a seperate primer or can i use this product without a primer? thanks.

Asked by: chard
To achieve the best result, it is highly recommended to use the appropriate primer before applying paint, regardless of the substrate's finish, unless you're trying to achieve a certain aesthetic (but be aware of the maintenance thereafter); this will most likely provide the best adhesion/bonding between the paint and the subtrate.

Can this paint used over a glossy paint (oil based) ?

Asked by: Mcc1999
Hi Mcc1999 - Thank you for your question! Our Marquee Interior paint can be applied directly on top of glossy and oil-based paint in good condition. We recommend scuff sanding glossy surfaces and making sure your project is clean and dry before painting. Best - Sara

Can paint and primer be thinned?

Asked by: zoemeg
Hi zoemeg, Thank you for your question. We don't recommend thinning our Marquee Paint, as this can jeopardize the integrity of it. If there's a reason why you want to thin it, feel free to reach out to us directly; we can look into alternative options for you. -Edith
