Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not bad Definitely needed 2 coats if you want full coverage and not streaky. I let dry for 2 days and was going to only wax coat the main table top area of my cabinet and leave the inside shelves untreated. Well as soon as I put a dish on that shelf and slid it back a bit all the paint came up with it! HD associate told me I only needed to wax to give it sheen and make easier to wipe down. But untreated would be fine if I preferred. So I had to repaint and wax the entire cabinet. So far seems to be holding up. I haven't had to even dust or wipe any spills yet but I am reading that apparently the wax won't hold up to cleaning/water. I will have to wait and see on that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tin White used on desk with great results! My experience using this chalk paint was great. I feel like a lot of these reviews I'm reading is there was no proper prep work. I've used this paint on this desk and a dresser and had no issues with coverage. I'll make sure to wash my project with a degreaser, fill, smooth out surface and depending how dark my item is I'll do 1-2 coats of primer. I use BIN123. After my primer is completely dry I'll give a light buff and then go in with my chalk paint and do 1-2 coats and always a light buff in-between with a medium grit sandpaper. I'll finish off my project with Vaerathane wax in natural and apply with a Bennett wax brush and perfection everytime. I just started an IG page to log my work so you can follow me @restoredby_m. Happy painting everyone!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst paint ever! Let me start by saying I have been painting furniture for close to 6 years and have used several different kinds of paint. Annie Sloan, fusion, cottage paint, country chic. I’m always up for trying new paints so when I seen that behr had their own chalk line I thought I’d try it. From what I heard behr has a great paint line so purchase two cans, fossil grey and tin white. I prep my piece like I normally would by sanding, throughly cleaning and letting it dry. First of all it goes on very streaky and takes several hours to paint a piece. After multiple days and six coats I almost have the piece covered in tin white. I dry brush the top with the fossil grey let dry and set for a few days and then varnish. I think great even though it took way longer then it should have at least my piece looks great. Within a week I have a buyer for my end tables and within a few days I get a message from them saying the paint is peeling. So not only have I wasted my time and my money on this paint I’ve also got an upset customer, understandably. I hope people can learn from this review and save themselves the money and the embarrassment. Search elsewhere for your paint because behr chalk paint is complete garbage.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Buyer Beware, Black is grey I see the comment from the other person that said this is gray, not black, unfortunately I sought after I finished my project. I bought the clear wax, and I found that it left white marks in the areas with uneven surfaces, which was disappointing. Now I understand I have to go and re-purchase the block wax for another $35 to make the gray look black, when I thought it was going to be black in the first place. I also see streak marks after a second Coat and I’m not sure what I could’ve done to avoid these.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great look but needed more coats (This review was collected as part of a promotion.) I bought this to paint entire kitchen cabinets. Just finished the cabinets and going to work on the doors soon. Unfortunately it needed 3 coats. Home Depot said I should only need 1 maybe 2 coats and no primer was needed with our birch cabinets. We properly cleaned and sanded yet still needed more coats. Now have to go back to Home Depot to get more pain to finish the doors with the now expected 3 coats rather than 1 or 2. Would have considered primer but based on Behr’s Recommendations our birch wood shouldn’t need it. Great product but you will need 3 coats and even if you don’t have wood with tannins may need primer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The most unpleasant chalk paint I have ever used I wanted to paint my headboard and thought I would try the Behr chalk paint. In the past, I had used Annie Sloan, Martha Stewart and Rustoleum chalk paint with no problem. The Behr had issues from the very beginning. Firstly, it would not adhere properly. Not even after having lightly sanded the surface. We had to get a bonding primer for it to adhere. The Behr chalk paint is very thin and needs multiple layers. I had to do four layers to get good coverage. With other chalk paints I usually only need two coats. It does not apply or feel like standard chalk paint at all. I would not recommend or use again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely Disappointed I bought this paint about a week ago for a small round wood dining table. Sanding prior to painting is not typically necessary with chalk paint and 1 or 2 coates should always do the trick. However, this was not my experience with this paint in the slightest. Since I was doing a dining table, which will need to withstand possible spillage and frequent wiping, I decided I would do the extra step of sanding pre-painting anyway, just to play it safe and because I know the final product is only ever as good as the prep that goes into it. After the sanding was complete, I used a tack cloth to ensure no dust particles were left and then the painting began. The 1st photo is of the bare table after sanding, the 2nd photo is after 2 coats of paint, and the 3rd and 4th photos are after 4 coats... yes you read that correctly, 4 coats of chalk paint! Between the 1st and 2nd coat I allowed the table to dry for 3 hours. Between the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th coats I allowed 1 day of drying time in between each coat. By the time I finished the 4th coat nearly the entire 916ml can was empty. The end result, streaking and the under colour of wood is still peaking through. The last 2 photos are of the final product after 4 coats!!! In addition to not even attemptIng to put a sealant on this product I am now back to square one. I will be going back to Home Depot with my empty can of paint, receipt, and pictures and we’ll see what they can do. However, even if a refund is granted the amount of time and energy invested for this result is extremely disappointing and frustrating. Working with chalk paint is usually a breeze but from my own personal experience, I would highly recommend using a different product if you want to save yourself time, money, and a major hassle!

Can it be used to refinish a ping pong table?

Asked by: Kathleen
Hi Kathleen, thank you for your question. As it turns out, our products have not been tested on ping pong tables, so this would be experimental. It may be best to look into a specialized coating designed for this type of project. Have a great day! -Lina
