Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible unnecessary roughness Terrible and rough. This is not a self leveling paint. I put the door flat on a table. Make sure you use a really fine foam roller because it will be alot rougher. Your brush strokes will be seen. I sanded down this door to the metal because the old paint was really rough. That steel was clean. The first coat of this paint put back the roughness, even with a really fine roller. I feel stupid buying this junk.

Color is not even close to what i asked for, when applied in optimal conditions, you cant apply this crap thin enough to stop it from running. Pic on the left is ONE coat of rusteloem, on the right is after the THIRD coat of this behr garbage, suposed to be safety orange.

Can this be applied directly to galvanized steel (ie exposed ducts)?

Does this paint have actual rust inhibiting additives for direct to ferrous metals? Thanks

Hi Nick, thank you for reaching out with your question. We appreciate your interest in our products. Yes, our Direct-to-Metal Paint is a rust-inhibiting, rust-resistant coating. However, we recommend removing all rust and mill scale using sandpaper, steel wool, abrasive blasting, or other abrading methods to create a profile on the metal’s surface, and cleaning the residue off the metal by scrubbing the surface with a solvent such as mineral spirits or acetone. I have a powder coated metal fence and would like to paint it black as the original coating is faded. Will this paint be suitable for this type of material? It’s not a smooth surface but has a bit of grit to it. Do I need to prime prior to using this pro?

it says properly prepared surfaces, question "what is a properly prepared surface?" can I make sure the surface is clean with a brush or do I need to sand it or what do you mean?

Hi Robert - Thanks for your question. We recommend scuff sanding glossy surfaces and making sure your project is clean and dry before painting. This product is self-priming when applied to metal surfaces; however, you have the option to prime ferrous metals with a rust-inhibitive primer like our Multi-Surface Primer & Sealer for the most corrosion protection. Hi Robert - Thank you for your question. Our White base (No. 3200) can be used untinted or can be used for lighter colors as it will hold up to 6 oz of colorant. Our Deep base (No. 3230) should not be used without being tinted, and is typically used for our deep or rich colors as it will hold up to 14 oz. of colorant. Hope this helps! - Sara
