I used 3 colors, over Kilz in most places. 18 months later, I'm painting a window, and the masking tape pulled up some paint from the previously painted wall. Attempts to sand the torn edges caused more paint to detach from the surface; rubbing it with a finger pulled up more gummy paint. I painted the window with the same paint on bare wood; 5 days after painting slight scratches from reinstalling the sashes caused paint to stretch and tear off the wood. I used Behr on the recommendation of a friend who works with paint manufacturers. My kitchen does not look the way I had hoped.

We painted it by hand with brushes (ugh), this paint is thick and covers like a dream with one coat! I was a little unsure how it would hold up with our Albertan weather, if anything it may have faded a touch which I am okay with. Highly recommend!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Save your money, buy a better quality paint Normally I am happy with Behr paint, but in this instance, I am not. I decided to try this product as I was on a tight budget, and had a wooden garage door, 2 exterior doors and a wooden sign to paint, all white. For all 4 items, I prepared the surfaces to be painted by lightly sanding, vacuuming the surface, wiping each surface with a damp cloth, then waited an hour to ensure each was dry. I then did 2 primer coats on the garage door & exterior doors using Zinsser Bin 1-2-3 water based primer, following the instructions on the can. As the wood sign was pine and had not been painted yet, I did 2 coats of Zinsser Shellac based primer to seal the knots and sap streaks. I then painted each item with the Behr, waiting 8 hours between coats to ensure it was dry. The garage door took 3 coats to cover. The 2 exterior doors took 4 coats to cover. The pine sign, I am currently waiting for the 4th coat to dry so I can apply a 5th coat, as there are still dark spots visible with the naked eye where the knots are in the wood. I tried taking a picture however after 4 coats, the darker spots did not show well in the picture, so I did not include it. I would recommend saving your time and money and spend more money on a better product.

What is the drying time for the paint? I want to paint an exterior door, and need to know how long before I can put the handle/lock back on. Thank you

It drys in about one hour but is still soft usually within three hours, I painted in a cool garage about 15 degrees C and it still dried as mentioned

Can this be used to paint a steel entrance door?

Hi Sama, thanks for the question. Since plastic is a smooth hard-to-paint surface, I'd recommend priming the furniture first with our Adhesion Primer, then you can top coat it with our Ultra Exterior Paint. Have a great day! -Ronald

It is not recommended that Behr Spar Varnish No. 4504 be painted over once it has been applied to a surface. However, it can be done after scuff sanding the surface, priming and then painting with an exterior latex paint.

is this primer/paint good for pressure treated wood?

Hello Roman, Thanks for writing in. Yes, the Behr Premium Plus Ultra is a great product for pressure treated wood on vertical surfaces or horizontal surfaces without exposure to foot traffic. Hi Brianetc - Thank you for your question! Sorry to say, we don't recommend applying this product to a fiberglass boat. We currently don't have a different product we can recommend, but you may want to reach out to your local Home Depot for some suggestions. They may be able to point you in the direction of a marine based coating that will adhere properly to fiberglass and hold up to the amount of water a boat is exposed to. Hi, would this be a good paint for painting furniture? I would be painting white pine mostly for a nice farmhouse look. Would I need to add a primer or would a few coats of this protect the wood for long-lasting, & guard against bleed through?
