Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Value I have painted two large rooms with this paint, and am about to paint a third, and I love it. It saves us so much money, effort, and time because we don't have to worry about buying primer (or the right primer, as we own an older home) and there isn't that added step of waiting for an extra coat of paint to dry. One of the rooms we painted was a medium bright colour, and this paint provided excellent coverage. Within two coats, we got the saturated colour we wanted, and it has been durable enough to withstand two years in our high-traffic and extremely humid kitchen. We also just finished painting the first of two coats of the darkest blue we could find in our living room, and yes -- deep and dark colours can be challenging. However, if you take your time and work in small sections (I painted no more than a 2'x2' section at a time with the roller), you won't have any issues. This paint covers well enough that I could actually get away with not even doing a second coat, if I really didn't want to. If you follow traditional, tried-and-true painting methods such as making sure that your walls are clean ahead of time; ensuring any compound is sanded down evenly and smoothly; avoid painting on moist, humid days; don't go over a section again and again; and take your time instead of rushing through it, then there should be no reason why you won't love this paint, too.

When I bought this paint a couple weeks ago, the woman helping us said that because it had primer in it, we would probably only have to do one coat max two and that the gallon would be more than enough for 200 square feet. We have been back to home depot 3 times to buy more paint and have had to do THREE coats! We were painting over a light grey, not black or red or anything dark. We painted almost every room of the our new house home with this paint and have spent over $500 on it and we are extremely unhappy. So disappointed. Don't waste your time or money. I thought home depot would have carried the best brand ever, but it's quite the opposite.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Misleading advice from HD staff or product problem I bought this paint to refresh the trim in my century home. I was told this product was appropriate to use over the existing oil paint on the trim as this was a paint and primer in one — no sanding required. Not quite that simple, I am afraid. After painting the trim and discovering that the paint peels off with scratching, I was forced to use a HEAT GUN to strip my trim of both the new and old paint. (Roughing up the surface with sandpaper in order to repaint the affected areas only resulted in more ugly peeling!) I don’t know if it was the advice of the HD associate (“no need to sand”) or the product that is the problem. I think it was the former.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money!!! This is the most TERRIBLE paint I have ever used. My normal paint is Behr Premium Plus and it's excellent. However this paint is extremely poor quality, and hugely disappointing compared to the Behr paint I normally use. This paint bubbled on every bit of filler, and it's literally peeling off the walls at the slightest touch. I painted over my regular Behr paint, and the performance of this paint is completely unacceptable. I'm now afraid that if I paint over this stuff it will bubble even more. WHAT A MESS!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Paint For Ceilings, New Or Old Spend the extra money for ceiling paint and go with this! Yes, you can get other Behr ceiling paint or others for less, but it doesn't compare to the scuff defense. It goes on smooth and hides imperfections very well. I skim coated the ceing and sanded in areas and this paint hides all of it and leaves a beautiful white finish. The ceiling looks like a brand new home and I am very happy! It is well worth the money and you'll thank yourself for purchasing it. Again, spend the extra money and get this and you won't be disappointed. I don't normally leave reviews but I am very happy with the result after using this paint. Will gladly recommend, great product!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Took several coats to cover I bought this paint in a shade of yellow to cover a light blue wall. I expected it to cover in one coat, and tried to help to that goal by applying the paint thicker than usual. After one coat, blue still showed through. Not only that, but in parts, the paint started dribbling down the wall. We added a second coat, but it wasn't until a 3rd (!!!!!) coat was applied that we got the true color we were aiming at. If I had known that I needed 3 coats of paint for this project, I would have bought tinted primer and a can of cheaper paint. Applying 3 coats of paint was unexpected, time consuming and exhausting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great paint I was very pleased with this paint - I was painting 2 bathrooms that had been painted by previous owners 6 or 7 years earlier. I only needed 1 coat! You might need 2 coats with a darker colour, but I definitely never expected to get away with 1 coat. It went on very easily, dried quickly and just overall turned out great. I will be using this paint again to paint my bedroom.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from More work, more money. I'm a long time Behr paint user and had no issues working with this paint, but I'm extremely disappointed in its coverage. I was painting over a very light blue and it took 4 coats! So the extra money I spent of scuff defense is going to cost me even more when the 5 gallon pail I bought won't even be enough to complete my second room. I've done these two rooms before and normally I would have lots left over. The end result looks fine and hopefully the scuff defense actually works over time - but next time its the regular Behr interior for me. Less money, less work and more coverage.

Will this block wood knots from showing through?

Bare wood should always be primed first. Having done so, the knots do not show through. This paint is very durable, and if you do get rub or scuff marks, they wipe off easily. The only complaint that I have with this product is the thickness - it clumps easily and should be kept in an airtight container with minimum head space. Also, clean your brush every hour or so.

Can I use Scuff Defense matte finish paint in a washroom that is infrequently used? According to the description, it has the mildew resistance necessary for damp environments.

Bought the stain-blocking 4 mos ago and now can only find Scuff Defense. I want to buy this as I ran out but the only reviews which are good, are ones which were part of a promotion. Regular users are totally dissatisfied!

I applied the product by sparing on fresh drywall (after PVA Primer) and consumed double the coverage rate in the specs( used double the estimated quantity). Do I need a second coat? Is it recommended to go two coats after the primer
