Rated 3 out of 5 by from Blade no that durable it helps to make the job of trimming significantly easier however, the blade wears out quick.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A nice creature comfort This is a comfort item. It is cheap, it allows you to cut veneer flush. I used to do it with a box cutter, this is much easier. Worth buying to avoid the headache if you plan on doing more than one piece of wood in your life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked well for me I nearly didn't buy this tool since one of the reviews here was really poor, but I'm glad I did. It worked well for me, was easy to use and produced an excellent finish. Instructions are printed on the inside of the packaging - follow these, keep the tool flat, no problems. As an experiment, I tried *filing* the veneer on a scrap piece rather than using the tool - but a flat enough file angle to get a good edge also scratched the top of the piece: so I concluded that the tool was worth the money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works, but practice on test pieces first! I bought this to trim iron-on melamine tape. Out of the box, the blade was quite recessed, but upon closer inspection, it did not seem to be seated fully. Once I re-seated it, it was then proud of the base slightly, which led me to add some layers of paper sticker shims. The real trick, however, was to ensure the pressure was placed on the surface of the piece being trimmed, NOT on the part of the tool hanging-over the edge. After some test cuts and practicing different techniques, I ended-up adding some layers of small paper stickers to shim the blade slightly so that it was about flush with the base. As for technique, it seems like you would be safer to bevel the edge slightly, but in my testing that produced the worst results, digging-in to the edge. The best results were keeping the blade totally flat by pushing on the edge of the tool sitting on the panel surface. I would recommend practicing with this technique first and then decide if you need to shim it at all. If you need to reduce the cut depth with proper technique, then you can try the paper shim stickers idea to tweak it. Note that after applying the shims, you must use a sharp utility to trim the excess shim away so that it does not interfere with the cut depth. For me, once dialed-in I found the tool quick and consistent to trim the melamine tape edges.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've used this edge trimmer for more than 6 years I've used this trimmer for more than 6 years and it works beautifully with oak, pine, cedar and melamine veneers. I am not sure why the previous review was so negative. I can only assume that the reviewer did not have very much experience using veneers to edge boards. As will all trimmers it is important to hold the trimmer perfectly flat against the edge of the board and it will not cut into the board as the blade is flat against it. It is also very important that the edges of the board perpendicular to the surface be smooth with no protruding grain or of course the cutter will cut into that part of the board. Veneering edges across the grain of the board takes more experience and touch than along the grain of the board as with any trimming. My trimmer blades have finally worn out and cannot be properly sharpened without leaving gap any more, so I am buying a replacement trimmer. If you sharpen your blades make sure you use a diamond hone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No thought put into this This product is marginally useful. By design it pulls itself "into" the job excessively and has no way to adjust it. I thought about sticking shims to the bottom of it but decided to return it instead and look for something that was designed with a little bit of insight. At the least, the people that designed it should actually use it as its faults are quite evident.
