Great product, great price.  A staple of my plumbing toolkit, this product works exceptionally well to light my torch.  The extra flints it comes with are a bonus luxury that I've not had the chance to use, because the first one has lasted years of repeat use--including for non-project related purchases because my wife found this and thought the sparks it made were "pretty."  Imagine my surprise when I found her in my workshop endlessly striking this together to create showers of sparks.  It was a paradigm shattering illustration of the classic men playing with fire stereotype you often hear.  I doubt she'd admit to it, but it happened. Circling back, this lighter is worth it.  It is reliable enough to work repeatedly and durable enough that I have no doubt it will last a lifetime.

If your igniter is irritating to use cause it barely sparks if at all, and you have to hold it just right so you get enough downward pressure on the thing to make it spark... Then pick up one of these. A million times more enjoyable to use than the one that came with my HVAC oxyacetylene soldering kit I bought. Sparks it up first try every time. Every once in a blue moon you have to change the Flint in it, but I find that to be better than the ones that generally aren't all that great to start with, and wear down and just get thrown out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Reached Enlightenment Really? I have to review a torch lighter? Gads. Okay, you squeeze it, it works. It's lots of fun in the dark, too. I can't imagine how it could be any better. Maybe if it had a cord so I could tie it to a belt loop? No, it probably gets hot when the flame lights. Don't change a thing. Really.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cup lighter with flints I can't imagine anything easier to use than a cup lighter. There are all kinds of flint lighters; cup lighters have a... cup. You must strike a new flint many times until it is smooth; then use it. Turn your torch on until gas escapes then back it off a bit. Don't snuff the flame by putting the torch tip inside the cup. We have one of these in: the barn, garage, basement, bucket truck garage and bucket truck. They all work, even the $1.00 one from a grocery store $1.00 tool bin (probably 50 years old). If you cannot use a cup lighter you shouldn't be working with explosive gasses, flammable liquids or... well you get the picture. This comment is not meant for you, dear researcher; it is for the people who gave this simple device one star. These do not all use the same size flints. If you are buying one to get more flints (a pack of flints typically causes $5.00), bring your old lighter with you; they don't all have the same thread size.

How on earth does this work? Hos is it assembled? There are no instructions with it and none on the internet. I presume it is so simple none are necessary. Perhaps too simple for me!
Asked by: norricorp
It works by applying upward pressure of the arm holding the flint across the striker. Grip the product on the central arms and press them together rapidly, it should drive the movable arm against the other causing a spark. Once you can consistently get a spark, then you are ready to use this with a propane torch. Invert the strike over the end of the torch and release the gas valve, immediately click the striker to cause a spark and ignite your torch.

How many lights per flint should I expect? I just got one of these and it only lit my torch once.

Asked by: BathroomTyler
Not normal! Should strike many, many times. My first response is something happened after assembly, packaging or shipping. Take it back!
