Views from an active DIYer: I normally use clamps for woodworking, however I decided to try these clamps on a different project and it worked well. I was working with PVC and needed to stabilize it. I did not have a vice, so using this clamp I was able to clamp the pvc to my workstation to keep it from moving. Since the clamp was too long to use upright, I simply flipped it over and it worked well. The surfaces were wide enough that it held the pvc and the workstation just fine. The quick release worked just fine, simply loosen it and pull the handle away from the clamp and you can quickly adjust it. The molding on the handles were very comfortable. To test the strength of the clamps, I opened it about 1/2 way , locked it and pushed against the marring pads and it did not move. This is a great product and worked well for my woodworking and DIY needs [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I've been using the plastic/metal bar clamps that have more a C face (like the DeWalts) - and they're good but have a tendency to flex a little in the plastic face. The face of these is very sturdy and has no flex at all. I'm going to pick up a few sets in different sizes. Between the very fine (tightly packed) detents and the hand knob you have great fine tuning control. They're heavy but they have a great build quality and feel. The rubber blocks are very thick but forgiving (so far they haven't damaged anything I've clamped). They're a great size for most household projects... they should handle most box drawers without issue. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Now, I got a pair of the 40" and the 24" and I have to be upfront and tell you this review is tainted by my overall impression of the four clamps; the 40" clamps, in particular, are terrible. Before these four, I had 22 bar clamps ranging in sizes from 12" to 50"; most of these clamps I've had for a dozen years or more. Some are more than 20 years old. They are produced by what I believe to be the #1 and #2 bar clamp manufacturers in the world [can I say Jet and Bessey?]. Also, I have to tell you I build furniture; I use a lot of clamps in building frames and carcasses; a typical glue-up will involve 8-to-12 clamps. So, I am no newbie to clamps. What does a woodworker look for in bar clamps? For start, rigid, straight, and robust [corrosion-resistant and glue resistant] I-beams ... these clamps lack this basic. So, for me ... and I assume for any woodworker ... there's no sense in going further. But you may want to know that the jaw cases are two pieces rather than one and that the 'clutch' is merely a piece of wire; the grips are decent to handle. Higher clamping force than pipe-clamps. You can get bar-clamps and pipe-clamps for less money. But this BORA is much beefier and is rated for much higher clamping force than low-price clamps. Over a thousand pounds! Not every job needs that much pressure, true. But sometimes you don't know going-in how much of a struggle you may hit. These should be up to difficult clamping tasks. Pipe-clamps like to go askew when you tighten up. Bar clamps don't, which is why I prefer then even when more expensive than pipe-clamp plus pipe. When loose, the jaws are not parallel. However the movable jaw is spring-loaded. When you set pressure it will sit-back and set almost exactly parallel. There's a trick to sliding the jaw freely: lift the handle away from the bar. This releases the teeth and the jaw will slide free as long as the handle is up. When you let go it drops back into engagement, ready to turn and clamp. There is a plastic face on the jaws. My clamps shipped loose in a carton and a piece of plastic was chipped-off in shipping. Does not affect function, just odd to find loose bits in the box. These clamps are heavy-duty and open to 40.5 inches with the plastic end-stop on the rail. If you remove the stop (it slides on and off), the clamp opens to 41.25 inches. Each clamp weighs almost 8 lbs, so it’s no lightweight to handle, but it is made well and it's sturdy. I estimate it will last a life time unless you throw you tools around. The jaws are made of heavy plastic, and will break if abused. The jaw's “throat” depth is 3.5” & the jaws’ widths are 1.5 “ (mobile jaw) and 1 3/8” (stationary jaw). The operation of the clamp is very nice, and allows you to passively slide the mobile jaw up against the work surface, which will hold the clamp in place while you wind the clamp handle tightly. To release the clamp: unwind the handle to release the bulk of the pressure, and then an easy tilt of the handle allows you to freely slide the mobile jaw to any position on the bar. Very strong, durable clamps, heavy-duty bar, and overall, very well made. This clamp is far superior to any I've previously seen or used. The gripping surfaces are extra large, and can hold any woodworking or cabinet project that I have ever attempted. The product quality is undeniable, and the clamp position can be very easily adjusted, simply by lifting the screw-handle up. These two clamps can exert approiximately 100 lbs of pressure - more than enough for woodworking, and will likely last for my lifetime. Very, very impressed.
