Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage I bought this to replace a Bosch GLR225 that I dropped off a ladder. The buttons are cheap, and don't give good feedback as to when they are pressed. The 225 gave a satisfying 'click' with each press, letting you know that the measurement was taken. This measure also returns frequent 'error' displays. I've measured distances around 65' and had the result come back at around 2' or so. I have had to frequently remeasure to ensure that the result is reasonable. If you rely on taking measurements as part of your job, stay away from this product. It is a liability. I loved the GLR225, but I am now forever hesitant to purchase another Bosch.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Compact, convenient and accurate This laser measure is well constructed and accurate. The model I have came with a case which makes carrying the device easy and protects from damage and accidental button press. Batteries last a long time and this device offers more features than I'll likely require but it's nice to have options. At times I've found the laser projects too close to the wall I'm measuring from when measuring flat on wall to a perpendicular wall causing the laser point to run out on the wall prior to the point of measurement. While a minor inconvenience, this is easily overcome by propping the laser measure off the wall with a finger when measuring. Need to make long measurements and working alone? Measuring in difficult to reach areas or have limited access? This is the tool for you!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good little measure, but has some negatives Just got this last week and testing all functions. I liked that it does quick measurements in door for length, area, volume, and indirect calculations. I liked the small size and carrying case too. The buttons sometimes bounce if I pressed lightly and I got two clicks out of it instead of the intended one; making a stronger positive push seems to give a better control. For outdoor, depending on the sunlight and reflecting surface, I was able to get about 50' out of it. The biggest problem is trying to see the red dot so I use the side edge of the laser unit as a sight to try to locate the dot; another option is to point to a closer location, then slowly move the dot towards your measuring spot so you can follow the red dot. Instruction did say this unit is not intended for outdoor use so this is a bonus. The shortest distance it can measure is about 6" (not mentioned in the manual), but I can live with this and switch to a measuring tape or caliper. The biggest problem I encountered is when I switch measurement units for the memory data. When I switch measurement unit to M or Ft-in, the stored data display correctly in M or Ft-in. But when I select inches, the stored data displays in meters. However, the three last active display (not data from memory) switched correctly. Seems to be a glitch in the programming? Will have to call Bosch on this.

how is this meter for outdoor measuring yard dimensions?

I was able to get up to about 40' in bright sunlight (the sun not shining directly on the spot I was aiming at). I think if you were able to create a shade to the area (see how your auto garage object detector sensor works), you can get further distance. Another option is do your measurement after the sun sets.
