Rated 1 out of 5 by from Noise from the damper I have an older model which was getting noisy so I boght to replace it. BUT this ARN80C is as noisy. This makes wonder where is the noise come from. I found out the noise come from the damper which was virbrating that makes the noisemy in the old and this Broan bath fan. So I wasted all the effort of replacing but I can't put back the old one which is smaller than the new one since I cut a bigger hole for the new one.

It was a hassle to install as it required enlarging the ceiling opening. Must be careful not to distort the light weight back box when securing to joist as the cover doesn't fit well (second one installed in 5 months). Trick to installing the cover--use short ty-wraps to pull spring clips together near the open ends, push/guide into bracket slots in box, THEN slide ty-wraps to the bottom toward the cover attachment letting the springs expand to capture brackets. Works good to prevent spring clips tendency to twist and to snap out of the plastic cover mountings.

At 2.0 sones you can still hear it but it's not the obnoxious noise of the cheap 4.0 sone. I installed this fan in a small 5×9 bathroom on a 30 minute digital countdown timer. Nice little setup.

Is it possible to install this fan on a wall ? what is the collar size?

Asked by: Sarfaraz
This is a 4" fan. The duct connector (collar) is 4" and the ductwork needs to be 4" through to the exit point for maximum efficiency. This model is recommended for ceiling installations only.

Can this be vented into the attic or does it have to go through the roof?
Asked by: Helen
Hi Helen, Thank you for your question on the A80 ventilation fan. We always recommend that our ventilation fan units be ducted directly to the outside through the wall or roof. We wouldn't advise exhausting into the attic. The warm, moist air will be put directly into the attic and can cause mold, mildew, and wood rot over time.

Does this exhaust fan require a separate jbox? The instructions say it’s does but the pictures do not. Can a bare ground wire be housed inside the fans built in jbox?

I want to put this in my kitchen ceiling to since i no longer have a range hood. will this suck hard enough to draw smoke that may come from cooking?
Asked by: Migs
This must be mounted 8' above the floor and outside of the cooking area. Since it is only 80 CFM, it is unlikely to remove all of the smoke from cooking.
