Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Flooring The floor looks great! Didn't have very many quality issues, virtually all the pieces were in very good shape. This is the third job I've done with the Copper Dark Oak and my customers have all loved it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Gorgeous, but unable to install I believe the shipment we received was defective. It is absolutely gorgeous hardwood. I love the look of it. My contractor was unable to install it as the boards, particularly the longer ones, the length would not lock tightly into each other even when nailed. The ends of the boards locked tightly, no problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the look. Lot of work I had read the reviews concerning the quality issues with boards. So I ordered one box first and installed. Found all the issues that have been identified in the other reviews (warped boards, bad tongues, non-90 degree end cuts and narrow boards). But I loved the look and ordered another 32 boxes. I have installed 24 boxes and love the finished look, but it was a lot of work to deal the the issues. I set up my router to allow me to cut off ends and make new grooves. The nailer could do some straightening. The thing that caught me the most was the narrow boards. I looked for them, but did not always see the problem until I did the next row. Then I would have to go back and pull up the previous row to remove and replace the narrow board. I was able to use most of the rejected boards at ends or along walls where they had to be cut anyway so in the end I had little waste. Again, I lot more work than you would anticipate, but I went into this with my eyes open and would do it again because I love the look of the finished floor.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The tongue and groove joints are not the same height... The tongue and groove joints are not the same height on each board which caused one board to sit higher than the one next to it. I ordered this flooring online so the flooring should have come from the same batch, but I still ended up with different color boards. POOR MADE IN USA PRODUCT

Roughly 30 percent of the flooring was damaged or had cuts that were not straight out of the box. If there was not so much damage the rating would be higher.

How many boxes are needed to complete a living room and dining room ?

Asked by: Mani
You need to determine the square footage (length x width if it is rectangular), then add about 10% and then round up to the next box (in my un-expert opinion).

Cupping

Has anyone had an issue with cupping in the 5" wide oak flooring? i live in the middle Tennessee area and humity is a real issue. I have gas heat and run a humifier all winter. Central Air in the summer.
Asked by: Mike
I just installed the 3/4 x 5" oak flooring about a month ago. I live in East Tennessee and so far, no cupping. I also have some old 3/4 x 4" ash flooring that I installed about 20 years ago and there might be a little cupping, but not noticeable to the average person. I used builders felt under the flooring and I would recommend it as a vapor barrier.

What is the R value for this material?

What is the R value for this material?
Asked by: MJ
Good afternoon. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. I apologize for the inconvenience; however, we do not have an exact R Value for our hardwood floors. Based on the average R Values for wood in general, a 3/4" solid oak hardwood floor would have an R Value of about 0.63, from an insulation point of view that is close to zero. Good insulation materials have R-values of 4.0 to 32.0. I hope this information is helpful. Have a great day.

What is needed to install to cement floor?

What is needed to install to cement floor?
Asked by: dt
Concrete (Requires additional subfloor) We encourage the use of a plywood subfloor when installing solid over a concrete slab. Some adhesive manufacturers have had substantial success with direct glue applications (no plywood subfloor) using a variety of different adhesives and moisture retardant systems. Follow the adhesive manufacturer’s recommendations and check their warranty coverage. In a situation where you must direct glue to concrete please review the adhesive manufacturer’s recommendation for proper application, proper adhesive and correct trowel notch and spread rate. Solid hardwood flooring makes it impossible to always guarantee perfectly straight pieces as these characteristics are inherent to the product. This type of characteristic is not considered a defect therefore when installing using the glue down installation system this will require a higher waste factor (20%).All concrete subfloors should be tested, and results documented, for moisture content. Visual checks may not be reliable. Test several areas, especially near exterior walls and walls containing plumbing. Below I have provided our installation guide for you to reference. http://www.floorexpert.com/articles/Installation/Installation-Instructions-3-4-Solid-Hardwood-Plank-Strip-Products-for-mechanically-fastened-staple-nail-or-cleat-applications?retURL=%2Fapex%2FknowledgeSearch%3Fk%3D3%252F4&popup=false&lang=en_US&KBArticleTypeLabel=Installation&KBArticleTitle=Installation+Instructions+3%2F4%22+Solid+Hardwood+Plank+%26+Strip+Products+for+mechanically+fastened%2C+staple%2C+nail+or+cleat+applications&KBArticleName=Installation-Instructions-3-4-Solid-Hardwood-Plank-Strip-Products-for-mechanically-fastened-staple-nail-or-cleat-applications&KBArticleType=Installation__kav&KBArticleID=kA361000000MVuL

How long must the solid wood flooring acclimate? Should the flooring be unpacked from the box while it is acclimating?

Asked by: Dan
I let mine acclimate for 2 weeks, unpacked in the room I installed it in. The instruction for a southern climate require glue and nail. Make sure you follow the lengthy PDF instruction from the Bruce web site. I installed 5" wide boards, glued and nailed and they still cupped. Not happy with this produce.

Finding a stain to match your floors?

Where can I get a chart that matches Minwax or other stains to your flooring colors. my customer bought her floor at Home Depot and she wants to change other mouldings in her house to match her new Bruce floor. HD could not help me? Can you?
Asked by: Matt
I apologize for the inconvenience. However, our stain is not available on the market. Our stains are UV cured and applied through our manufacturing process. We recommend contacting your local professional. A paint/stain specialist can custom color match our stains. Please visit your local paint professional with a sample of the flooring and the material you would like to match. I hope this information is helpful.
